mtb 1:02:00 [3] 22.18 km (2:48 / km) +250m 2:39 / km
ahr:148 max:168 slept:9.5 shoes: Giant Alias

Ride from home... went out towards Saxon Dr on some new tracks that even after living here for about 6 years I had never bothered to explore before. Nothing too exciting tho and headed down through Seven Mile out to Pittwater carpark, back again and around Single Hill and roughly home.

ahr:158 max:178 shoes: Brooks Cascadia

Nice run around home after my exam... reckon I saw 50 plovers. At least they aren't swooping so much anymore. Got around quick cause I was exciting bout getting home to watch the new Pearl Jam dvd.

mtb 55:00 [3] 16.95 km (3:15 / km) +300m 2:59 / km
ahr:149 max:173 slept:9.0 shoes: Giant Alias

Felt like I was getting sick last night, so decided to sleep in and miss orienteering. Didn't feel too bad during the day and got sick of studying so went out for a ride. One of the most enjoyable rides I've done from home... started off down my fav track to Lauderdale then back over Single Hill and along the cliffs to Seven Mile... carried the bike across the beach and continued on the road for a while then back on the tracks to home. Went relatively easy cause no way do I want a cold during exams again.

Running 50:00 [3] 10.8 km (4:38 / km) +250m 4:09 / km
ahr:162 max:181 slept:10.0 shoes: Brooks Cascadia

Solid run from home out along the cliffs track around single hill and back the usual way from Seven Mile. Had patches when I felt good, and others when I felt crap... but not feeling too bad considering. Legs are still a bit sore and not too used to running at the moment... was buggered afterwards as well, probably due to lack of lunch.

ahr:137 max:184 shoes: Giant Alias

Signal Station ride with Timmy Kenif and Tom... been a while since I've been there so was good fun, and didn't make many stuff ups through the tricky sections... apart from one occasion when my rear wheel stayed wedged behind a rock. Owned Tim. Can't be bothered figuring out the exact time without stops.
Olinda Grove time of ~2:20... but can't really count that cause I didn't time it exactly... having timmy as my toast probably helped.

Touch 40:00 [5]

After last weeks deplorable game I didn't know what this week would be like. Played the predators, who are probably going to be the best in the div, so it was a good test. Fortunately with a full team (plus a newbie) everyone played pretty well. 4-4 at half time after a very even first half... but we started ordinarily in the second and they got 3 fairly quick tries... one of which was dropped, but unfortunately the refs didnt see. Managed to get our act together tho and scored a couple of tries to finish up 6-7... a damn good effort. I wonder if we could have held a try or two out if we didn't have a first gamer playing tho... Hopefully we'll get lucky soon and win one... next week i think.

Orienteering race (Twilight) 28:40 [4] 5.0 km (5:44 / km) +240m 4:37 / km
shoes: Brooks Trance 6

Slog around Montague Bay... felt like crap and really didn't have the motivation. Was pretty much a route choice course, with 8 controls all pretty much either over or around a hill. Took climb options on the first couple which was probably the reason for feeling crap and unmotivated.

Touch 40:00 [4]

First game of summer touch... tas touch must have wanted a laugh so they put us in div 2. Losted 5-2 to Vascoes. We played alright in the first half, with it only 2-2 at half time. Then second half was absolutely pathetic... so hopefully will get back to where we were at the end of last season soon! At least theres hope of winning a game or two in div 2!

Orienteering race (Tas Relay Champs) 27:55 [5] 6.12 km (4:34 / km)
ahr:177 max:185 spiked:19/21c slept:8.0 shoes: Adidas Neptunes

Ran in the more senior WROC open team with Mike and John... went out third chasing 8 mins to Australopers and only 1 min behind EVOC.... it was a decent course for Five Mile. Didn't have any real problems, just drifting offline a bit on some of the compass legs... something which happened a lot last time I was down there earlier in the year. Should have been pushing myself a little harder during the race as well.. but happy with the run. Was a few mins shy of Australopers, but their third leg missed a loop... then when I finished I was told Mike mispunched for us on the second leg... then when Paul finished he realised he didn't punch the last control of the butterfly loops. So nobody won.

ahr:175 max:183 spiked:13/14c shoes: Adidas Neptunes

A fairly long tas sprint champs on a new map down the road at cambridge. Thankfully didn't feel too hungover from the night before, but did feel a bit seedy after the cold got a bit worse overnight. Felt pretty good running tho... got into the map quick, and picked most of the right route choices... opting to stay wider on tracks rather than bash through the bush. Lost a little bit of time in a few control circles, and missed the best route to 9... but pretty happy with my time and place.

ahr:153 max:175 slept:10.5 shoes: Giant Alias

Road into uni to meet Emma... I always seem to pick the windy days to do it. Felt like a bit of a slog to start off with... but once I was over mt rumney it was good.

Running 31:30 [2] 5.5 km (5:44 / km)
ahr:137 max:150 shoes: Brooks Cascadia

Nice easy run with Emma around home.. had to pick the right tracks to run on to avoid getting attacked by the plovers. I hate them... how stupid do they have to be to build their nests in the front lawn of a house with a road and track right next to it... and they wonder why they feel 'threatened' all the time...

Looking forward to running the twilight events over summer... just to try and build up some pace. Pretty decent course on Mt Nelson... was enjoyable enough. Everytime I run there, I notice something new on the map that doesnt quite look right... think it needs a serious update... no wonder the school kiddies have trouble.

Only had time for a short ride today, but I thought it would be better than nothing. Pretty cruisey one around the trails at home... everything felt good.

Running 39:00 [3] 8.7 km (4:29 / km) +150m 4:08 / km
ahr:152 max:178 shoes: Adidas Neptunes

After years of searching and eventually giving up I coincidently found a pair of neptunes sitting on a discount table outside hobart sports centre. Only one pair there, and it was in my size! My luck must be turning around! Don't really need them anymore, but at only $40 I couldn't resist.
Went for a run in them on the trails tonight (without orthodics), first 30 mins pretty solid around 4 min/k pace.. then took it real easy at the end. Had a few aches and pains... only real notable one was a bit of an ache in first my right then left achilles. Otherwise felt good... made me realise how bad I felt on the few runs I did in the week leading up to oceania.
After a disappointing couple of races last week I'm pretty fired up for a good summer of training to try n get some consistency back in my training.

Orienteering race (Oceania Relays) 47:00 [5] *** 8.62 km (5:27 / km) +250m 4:46 / km
ahr:181 max:191 spiked:12/15c shoes: VJ Falcons

Was pretty pumped about running in a pretty good relay team.. when matty came through the spectator first I was pretty pumped up to try n run my guts out. Started ok, with a couple of small mistakes at 2 and 3 (running to the wrong cherry tree at 3 when knowing that it probably wasn't mine)... Started to get tough at 6... and realised Ross Morrison was only 50m behind me then. Started to struggle a bit physically on the hills and got a nice branch to the face... was also a bit indecisive on route choice and was probably a bit too safe with the navigation. Over ran 8 and hit the clearing and ran back up the gully to see Ross again punch the control. He pulled away a bit on 9, caught the occasional glimpse of him in the distance every now and again. Climbed a little to high on 9 but hit the rest of them well. Hill to 11 killed me tho... and got all sorts of aches, cramps and pains trying to run hard up to 14.. Just managed to hold off a hot finishing Muzza to put Robbie out in second. Pretty happy with the run... unfortunately Rob made a whoppa but pretty entertaining mistake which put us outa contention...

Orienteering race (Oceania Long Champs) 1:42:00 [5] **** 14.38 km (7:06 / km) +500m 6:03 / km
ahr:171 max:184 spiked:21/31c shoes: VJ Falcons

Started ok... but by 5 knew that it was gonna be a slog for me. Again caught dave at 5... and kept running reasonably cleanly, but didn't feel fast or good at all. Having to walk some of the hill up to 10 probably was the start of my negative thinking... was really slow across the hill to 11 as well and started to get lazy and sloppy. Started losing time around some of the control circles, and not really pushing because I thought I would be well off the pace anyway so what was the point. Kez catching me at 21 woke me up a bit and made me push a bit harder for a while... but fell back into lazy mode by about 25... and started feeling really tired after 28, which made the last few really slow. Disappointed this time with my attitude, in the end a more confident run wouldn't have put me too far off the pace since everyone seemed to have bad runs. Probably didn't expect much of a result today anyway tho..

Orienteering race (Oceania Sprint Champs) 13:39 [5] **** 2.6 km (5:15 / km)
spiked:18/24c shoes: Brooks T4 Racer

The race I was most looking forward to... Felt pretty good before the race... memorised where the start triangle would be on the map with 1 min to go and sussed out the routes in the direction to the first control. Was feeling confident. Then picked up the map and couldn't read anything on the map. Had to stop at the start triangle to finally see it on the map, then started running off in the wrong direction. So lost 20-25 sec on the first control... then got sucked into a really stupid route choice to 3 after getting confused with the mapping of the garden bed. Another bad route to 4... but was starting to get some sort of rhythm going... until another dodgey route choice to 6. Missed 9 a bit as well, but was glad to be doing the easy legs in the bush to get some composure. Felt good through to the spectator, then started to feel tired during the running legs. Hit the last loop pretty well, but was starting to feel the lack of speed work. Pretty disappointed with the run... should have gone into the race with the same attitude as the middle distance on monday... but was trying too hard instead.

Running 20:00 [3] 3.95 km (5:04 / km)

Short run along Ineka's drive... did a few 30 sec intervals... just cause...

Orienteering race (Beer-O) 26:00 [5] 3.1 km (8:23 / km)
ahr:155 max:186 spiked:15/15c shoes: Brooks T4 Racer

Despite not really wanting to do it at all, ran the beer-o. Started at the back of the pack after the first beer, but fortunately found myself chasing down only matty after most people ran past the first control. First loop went well, sitting nicely in second. Then came the second beer.... dropped to the back again. But picked up a bit of time in the second loop until... the third beer. Hit the wall... just don't have the will to drink something I know is gonna come straight back up again. Made the bad choice of running off with a mouthful of beer on the third loop, which didn't end well. Managed to finish the fourth loop and just finished the last beer before Sebba.

Orienteering race (Oceania Middle Champs) 35:45 [5] **** 5.36 km (6:40 / km)
ahr:181 max:189 spiked:18/22c shoes: VJ Falcons

After feeling shit running yesterday, decided to focus on feeling confident and concentrating on getting a good flow and rhythm orienteering. Worked pretty well, was slow to the first control was quickly got into it. Route choice to 3 lost some time and was losing a little bit of time in the control circles, but nothing major... keeping pretty safe but steady. Caught Dave at 5 and was with for most of the run to the spectator. Nearly made a parallel error going to 7 but corrected quickly enough. Hit the wrong termite mound going to 9, but only lost 15 secs or so. Started to feel pretty good for the rest of the course. No other real mistakes, apart from being a bit hesitant on a few after the spectator leg. Was happy with the run and result... was better than I was expecting.
