Walking 3:37 intensity: (1 @0) + (3:36 @1) 0.32 km (11:12 / km)

Finishing up the last "street" in Coopersburg for CityStrides. I think I'll edit OSM to make it a "parking aisle" since that's exactly what it is. "Poplar Alley" doesn't exist; the apartment complex is Charles Place, anyway.

Mid 50s and overcast.

Walking 41:16 intensity: (2:18 @0) + (31:58 @1) + (6:22 @2) + (21 @3) + (17 @4) 3.84 km (10:45 / km) +38m 10:15 / km

A loop in "Springfield Township" to get some distance, and a road in CS. Then to the grocery store.

To start of short advanced UsynligO course at Brownell in Carbondale. We didn't see another soul while we were there, just a junked car/truck and a lot of junk (dumped near parking--5 mattresses among them--and near the start, where there were a bunch of holiday decorations for various holidays, and a toilet, and several smashed and/or shot up TVs). Upper 50s to near 60 when we finally got started.

Orienteering (Brownell short adv) 1:29:48 intensity: (2:20 @0) + (6:10 @1) + (34:06 @2) + (37:36 @3) + (8:35 @4) + (1:01 @5) ***** 3.78 km (23:45 / km) +52m 22:14 / km

Wow!! Very intense map reading. And a bit more physical (climbs) than I'm really ready for. I knew better than to go on the longer (4.1 km, vs 3.4) course on the first visit here, but even this was too much for my brain to handle. By the time I got to #7 (after missing #6 by one spur, but getting close enough to hear the tune without actually descending and ascending) at about an hour I knew I wouldn't do the entire course in the time we'd arranged to be out (1.5 hours), so I looped over to a trail, decided not to drop to 8 and 9 but visit 10 (edge of an open area, with a great view across the valley) and then 13-14, because 11-12 were back in the superdetailed area. We'd even cropped and printed the 1:7500 maps at ~1:5000 but that was barely enough. :-)

Thank you for making the maps and designing the courses, GregA!

A bit warmer while we were out, and sunny. I'd brought a Camelbak to use but left it in the car and never missed it until 20 minutes into the course (on the way to #3). Oops.

Looking for early spring ephemerals at Burkhart preserve. Saw a few bloodroots, but no toadshade toadstool trilliums yet. Didn't hear/see a woodpecker where I saw one last time, either. Tossed some smaller branches off the trail but didn't have any tools to attack the logs (not that I would anyway).

I usually do a clockwise loop (or set of loops; this is a small park) but decided to go downhill first this time. Upper 40s and sunny, and out of the N breeze on the SE side of the ridge.

My favorite of the mural pics I took. Not that I like grackles, just that this one looks like a quilt to some extent.

A street art wander in Allentown (guided by a web page pointing out murals around the city), temps in the upper 60s...Nice day to be out and about in Allentown.

Took a map with stars where I wanted to find the murals, but was one street off on the north side and went farther than necessary. No matter. :-)

Low 70s and very breezy from the WSW, but somewhat sheltered in the neighborhood. Still, I wore my hat tether and was glad I had it.

Walked in LST; 10 more roads (some in Bethlehem) completed. When I was walking in a neighborhood near the end a plastic shopping bag flew across the street in front of me, so I picked it up; when I got put to the busier road (Hickory Hill) I picked up enough trash to fill the bag...a few plastic bottles, two Truly cans, a number of empty cigarette packs, three pieces of clothing, and an old hand towel. Odd assortment, no Bud Light cans, interestingly enough.

HVO/WCOC winter series Brown at Pound Ridge. 3.5 km with no climb stated but there was plenty. Beautiful sunny day temp in upper 60s!

I'm not used to exercising in the warmer temps yet so HR was high especially on the climbs. Non-spike was #5 where I was on the parallel hill (under the circle) but looked around and saw it. And maybe #3 where I saw and headed for the smaller boulder first bit then corrected once up the hill.

My intended route to 4 was more like others on Brown did, but I let the vegetation push me off line and farther downhill than I intended. I expecred to hit the stone wall that crossed the trail, but the one I hit first had a perpendicular one nearby...uh oh. Finally figured out where I was and then I was just slow and careful because 1) rocks and 2) climb. Fun course and beautiful day to visit WPR! Sad that we missed the MA/CT crew but we had a DVOA event to go to. :-)

AOWN sightings: several bumblebees, a couple of mourning cloak butterflies (first butterflies I've spotted this spring), and a very bright blue bird near #4; either a male bluebird or maybe an indigo bunting. I didn't have a good look at him, but did note the blue, which almost distracted me from seeing the flag on the boulder....

Spring Scavenger Hunt Rainbow Run in South Bethlehem.

I researched street art for the Street Artistry badge and noticed a lot of the pieces chosen were bike racks, so visited all the racks with colors plus found a few more items with colors of the rainbow, including a xylophone on the playground I passed by with multicolored "notes." Fun outing on another beautiful day (near 70 and mostly sunny).

Forgot to stop my watch when I got back to the car, so deducted the extra time and distance.

Beautiful day to be in the woods. Not the best O outing; I was a bit rusty, didn't find one control, and then picked a poor route to another. Otherwise, I had fun! DVOA Hawk Mtn Scout Reservation, Brown, 3.4 km, 105 m climb

Low 60s, sunny

I did manage to fall, twice (once after #3, and once on the way to #10 after I'd stupidly battled through the vertical green for way too long). The second fall did a bit more damage, tearing a hole in my O pants, and a smaller hole in the skin over my kneecap. Hands are good, though!

EDIT: Gouged several layers of skin off my right kneecap.

This was to cover 6.8 km for the CMRT Ageless Runder badge (do your age in minutes, miles, kms, marshmallows, etc). I chose to do this one today, 68 days before my birthday, since--unlike many others--my birthday doesn't fall within the challenge period.

Also racked up more streets in LST on City Strides.

Mid 50s and sunny; beautiful weather for the first day of spring!

Memorial march for CMTR, since my mom and dad never far from my thoughts; they helped establish my enjoyment of the outdoors (between taking our family to parks and the family cabin, to saying "go outside and play"), though today's wind was enough to rethink that.

Could have been worse; it was in the mid-30s and NOT snowing. :-D

Coopersburg, gathering more streets. One more short outing and I'll be done there. Upper 60s and sunny again!

This was hard to plan to get least backtracking. I had a good plan prepared but then missed a turn early on and kept going (missed turns cost me about 0.15 mi). Missed another turn later on, and stopped to study my map for a bit.

On the last little bit before turning back towards the car I was looking up instead of down and my toe caught a bit of sidewalk that stuck up a good 2" above its neighbor, and I went down. Hit my knees, hands, and even face (small scrape on my chin, and thank heavens for my sunglasses which bore the brunt and saved my face). Knuckles of right hand all scraped, but I landed funny on left hand and the three middle fingers hurt to bend (can't make a fist) and are puffy. (It's my map-holding hand, and we're going to Tyler Sunday.) D'oh!

EDIT: Jammed the three fingers. (Wanted to add those words so I can find it in a log search.) And I skipped the Tyler meet.

Some streets in Lower Milford Twp from the Limeport Stadium, while Glen ran roads in UST. Upper 60s/low 70s and sunny--spring conditions! And short sleeve weather.

Just noticed a new feature in CityStrides, where your list of cities, besides being ranked by % of streets complete, has an option to "pin" them to a separate listing at the beginning. My one "completed city" (UST) was pinned there already. So I no longer have to search through the list for the new "cities" I'm branching out into.

Didn't find enough colorful front doors to photograph for the rainbow challenge (though I did see yellow, orange, red, green and blue ones), but did 3x ~50m of kicks, "high" knees, and cariocas (criss-crossed side-stepping) to claim the Ministry of Silly Walks badge. ;-)

On mostly pavement, in search of snow geese, at Middle Creek Wildlife Management Area (webcam; check during daylight hours). We arrived at the viewpoint while they were still on the water, some took off once, and then all of a sudden they all (almost all) departed for the fields or the air. We've been here before during the peak migration; it's always inspiring to see. The FB feed (below the webcam video) counted 70,000 snow geese, 750 Canada Geese, and 800 Tundra swans, all of which we saw along with some random ducks and gulls. Pictures, maybe, tomorrow.
