cape raoul
still feeling ill, but simply couldn't pass up the opportunity. Probably the most incredible landscape of any run in memory.
The trail itself was incredibly non-technical, i believe it was rebuilt in the last 5 years. Almost pramable apart from 100 or so stairs.
Saw (and heard) seals at the point.

A real bucket-lister.

weather was too bad to go out with the kids so went up myself. over to old hobartians, up there, then decided to do lost world. so cool.
then back across organpipes, and down the full sawmill.
Also found a back track down to strickland falls which makes the full descent more direct, and bushbashed through the back of the brewery bit.
Used poles for most of the run which seemed really good apart from the two places where it got technical enough to need hands (up lost world and midway down sawmill.

real shattered when i got home, and immediately felt like a flu had hit me. still neg.

Tried to spot redpaint track, but was not where i thought it was (at the rockclimber turnoffs)... must be earlier at the boulderfield.

crosscut track is open! its ok, very gradual uphill with hairpin after hairpin... would be fun going down it, but alas.
Upper luge pretty nicely done, and almost made it through lowerluge without a dismount... have made a breaktrough with lines - taking the bottom or the rut rather than trying to stay up on the sides.

sweeping KMR from myrtle forest to cathedral via mountain river with Thom.
A really nice time, good weather, warm, not too rushed, not too slow.
Lost a couple of runners at each CP which meant we could speed up a bit again, then came across the last runner just before the thumbs summit, struggling, vomitting etc. she was climbing fine, but the technical traverse (very mt solitary-like) was very slow going.
Couldn't really get her to eat or drink anything so just trudged on for a great sunset over the thumbs and a headtorch descent down off cathedral rock around 45mins off cutoff.

A great way to spend the day when not good enough to run, but may have been less amazing if it had been horrible weather, or a less classy field.
