Really my first competitive race in a mixed, so i was a little nervous going in. But everything turned out fine. Race with Brain, Cobus and Nicky. See brian's comment here

The first 6 legs, were pretty much like a sprint race, all very short and fast with some of the half distance teams getting involved, no one could make a good break here. We managed to get a gap eventually when olympus made a nav error. The heat was killing us through the day, very little cover from the sun out in the free state.
As the sun went down, i started to suffer from low sugar levels, and then ate too much, and through the next 25km paddle, suffered with very high sugar, this lasted for around 4hrs of the race, before i got it sorted, this meant i was the weakest on what should have been a strong leg for me. I made sure i dressed warmly for the paddle, so where the others suffered in the cold i was ok.
As Brian mentions, the long 26km hike was our worst leg. Hard to say what our issues were, the cold didn't much, everyone was falling asleep, even though we hadn't really over done ourselves during the day. We finished that leg in really poor condition, but sat down, ate up, drank up and chatted to the 3 teams following us into transition and left there a lot more motivated than the rest of the race, with some more good team work we put some good time into the chasing teams to secure our lead into the finish.
It wasn't the most exciting race, but the main highlights were swimming across a channel just as the sun was rising, taking a cool down dip in a canel, racing with some good friends with good team spirit, having a solid race, meeting new people, finding jumbo's as race snacks, not being towed on my bike, explaining that i don't ride tubeless to 3 converts, racing under such clear night skies with a super bright moon, reaching cp18 before stephan had placed it..., i hope that's enough to justify this sport.
Double moon was the wrong name, it should have been called, 'fence gate fence 250km AR" it's just a more accurate description, as we saw a whole more gates and fences than moons.
