I think you did well DD. Karst terrain is tricky and you have little experience of it.

agreed this is tricky terrain and you did well considering the lack of experience in it. Try getting more training and racing in it as i think the terrain suits you well.

forest looked fast

Thanks! I'm sure some important race will eventually make its return to karst terrain.

The long, yes. The middle, spots could be fast but generally just very good visibility and slow going.15-18 was very easy running and of course 18 to the finish was very fast.

I agree with the above DD. As we discussed - you need to do the training in advance and get the experience in the terrain, etc. Then you can have an average performance and that will get you the results you want.

All said, it looks to me like you had a good race after having a disaster two days before. A few 90 second mistakes might be a bit frustrating but you recovered!

That's true. The race is a solid one to build on for next year whenever I run another World Cup. I think its solely sprint in the beginning of the year before WOC, so there is a good chance I skip that.

I would argue you have massive sprint orienteering potential Christian.

If you don’t like rocky terrain or thick terrain in forest races or sprint races at all then you really start to limit what races you can perform well in.

The best race it all and I honestly believe if you take the approach of enjoying the challenge of variety then that would give you more toughness.

Not a criticism so much as advice.

I think you have the potential to have a dynamite performance in Denmark.

Lucky for me I'd say I actually like rocky and green terrain as long as its not to the extreme end. As long as the green isn't painful to run through it adds to the fun. Whether they are my ideal terrain right now, who knows.

In terms of sprint, I still enjoy sprint but only as a change of scenery. Say one race out of 3 over a weekend. If I ran Sprint WOC it would be solely for having a good result, and anything less would be a massive let down. It costs a fair bit of money to go and I feel there are so many races that are cheaper and I would enjoy running more than Sprint WOC. That's my feeling to sprint orienteering at least.

There is still a decent chance I'll go for sprint WOC next year, just I will decide as it gets closer and depending on how I feel about my potential after another winter's training.

The first World Cup is only 4 hrs (whoops - a little over 2 hrs) drive from you. It's sprint but it seems to me there is little reason not to apply to go. I understand that it's not your favourite discipline but you'll never meet your potential if you only do the stuff you really enjoy.

Also - "If I ran Sprint WOC it would be solely for having a good result, and anything less would be a massive let down." is some sport psych stuff to keep an eye on. There are tons of reasons to go to Sprint WOC even if it's not your favourite. Every experience at WOC is a learning opportunity and a chance to gain experience in high pressure situations, practice the quarantine routine, make more connections with other athletes, expand your boundaries in other disciplines (which makes you a better well rounded athlete), etc. Lean into all of those positives!
