orienteering - Quality race 2:16:04 [3]
As disastrous as it can get. Missed my start by 3 mins. I don’t know what happened.
Only 2 toilets for the 200 people so a decent line up waiting for them, eventually bailed since didn’t have time to warm-up. Had 10 mins before my pre-start when I ran by. Took a pee and was going to go for a jog around the model map and throw the typical few minutes in at a steady effort. I guess I underestimated the distance of the course I had drawn so I realized I had to haul ass to the start if I wanted to be on time. Missed the call up by 2.5 mins, but it was a 5 min call up so I was hoping to sneak ahead.
However despite seeing where I should be, I had to wait for the beep before I could move ahead. This frustrated the shit out of me and needless to say worked me up. It’s my fault, I should have made my start and if not, just calmed down and excepted nothing I could do would change the lost 3 mins.
Long uphill section for the first part of the long leg to 1. Caught the Italian one minute ahead of me maybe 4-5 mins in. That’s as good as it got for me. No real plan of what I was looking for going into the technical portion and when I lost contact I should have stopped. Wandered around for a while. Ran the next 2 legs and same thing to 4. ~25 mins mistakes over 1 and 4. Going to 5 I realized I was mentally gone and incapable of orienteering properly, so I turned down the physical intensity and just tried to enjoy the terrain and regain some ability to think properly.
Bailed at 26. Legs on the verge of cramping and no real result I’d be happy with.
