Orienteering race 2:00:13 [4] *** 8.9 km (13:30 / km) +330m 11:24 / km

QOC local meet at McKeldin, Blue course. This was a good day and a bad day. The good part was that I felt physically strong. It was a very hilly course in places and many long trail runs, and I felt like I was moving quickly the whole time. I passed alot of people on the hills. The bad part was that my navigation was sub-par, so all of the gains I made in my running were lost at the controls when I didn't hit them dead on. I was working on my concentration, but I still don't think I paid enough attention to what I should be passing and getting the general picture of the leg and the control area in my head.

I also realized today that part of the problem is that my new contacts are still not right. I'm trying to max out the functions on my contacts by having bifocal ones and treat my astigmatism at the same time, and it's just not working. It's fuzzy looking at the map and it's fuzzy looking at distance. I'm afraid I'm going to have to go back to my eye doctor and get it straightened out, and maybe just treat my astigmatism and give in to reading glasses.

It was also incredibly hot and humid today, with the requisite number of spider webs and resident spiders. The worst AOWN sighting, though, was when I bent down to tie my shoe tighter, and a black snake slithered away through the grass. Of course, there was a bit of high-pitched screaming (mine) that accompanied that sighting.

Running 52:21 [2]

I was thinking of running at Fountainhead today (not the Women's Half Marathon race...just on my own), but my sister called and asked if I wanted to go running with her. So, I did that instead since I hadn't seen her in almost 2 months. It was a nice workout, with a lot of catching up. And it was stinkin' hot.

Running 43:07 intensity: (8:37 @2) + (27:15 @3) + (7:15 @4)

I sat my legs down this morning and told them that they *were* going running this morning, and because they were so insolent yesterday, they would be doing hill repeats today. And they'd like it!

So, I did a modified neighborhood run this morning and threw in 6 hill repeats in the middle of it. It wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be and I even had some flow happening for the rest of the run. I'll definitely have to try that again.

Cycling 1:00:00 [3]

I thought I was going to run today, but I was wrong. My legs told me they would rather cycle. I'll ask them again tomorrow.

Running 44:44 [3] 4.6 mi (9:43 / mi)

Since today was the first day of school, and I have to start getting up earlier again, I went back to my routine of running first thing in the morning. It was nice to get it done, but I definitely felt stiff. No flowing feelings at all. But I did notice that the trash cans had the flowing feeling this morning...the "over"flowing feeling. I wonder if Labor Day weekend is the new Fall Cleaning weekend (a la Spring Cleaning weekends).

Running 1:18:31 [3]

After spending most of yesterday in the car taking some furniture down to Caitlin at Tech and coming home again, all in one day, I decided that all I wanted to do today was go for a nice longish trail run...which is what I did. It was a beautiful day and I felt good, if not a little done towards the end. And the new annoyance that began out in Colorado still persists...where my ears clog up and I can hear myself breathe. I hate it! And it persists for a few hours after I'm done running. I try blowing my nose, yawning, popping my eardrums, etc., and nothing seems to work. I hope it stops soon because it might just drive me crazy.

Note

QOC is looking for pictures from the early days of the club, and I found this one of Peggy. Got enough beer, there?
