Note

Since training is on hold, I thought I'd take a stab a fabricating a bike box for ARWC, given that my usual routine of renting a luxurious Tri-All-3 box isn't allowed this time. After about 4 trips to Home Depot, the finished product emerged. Two things I learned:

1) I'm not an engineer for a reason

2) I'm already unimpressed with the way international teams are getting hosed on the logistics end of things for this race (although it surely won't be as bad as in Portugal 2 years ago). The bike boxes have to meet a very specific set of dimensions; which just happen to be the exact dimensions of a type of box that can only be purchased in Australian airports. On top of that, gear bins have to not only be a certain size, but a certain MODEL, which again, can only be purchased in Australia.

Seriously? Within reason, I can accept weight and size restrictions, but being told what type of bin I can use to take part in a race is a little ridiculous - expecially one that I can't buy here or even take home with me without it costing hundreds of dollars. What happened to the good ol' days of racing, where you simply just packed your gear and raced?

Being injured makes me rant-y...
