Run 39:43 [3] 5.61 km (7:05 / km) +77m 6:38 / km
shoes: Mizuno Wave Rider 14

Had intended a short run, then decided on walking then changed plans at the last minute and ran. Good call, all OK! Took it nice & easy, in Lane Cove NP with Paula while Nicole went exploring.

Quite a few big trees down.

Note

Disgusting tick #3 from (not-so) snooty Pymble. Will be avoiding the bush sections around there in the future.

These ones really hurt!

Yoga 1:00:00 [3]

A very stretchy class today which fitted perfectly for me.

Note

Massage in the afternoon. Very effective and felt all over much better. Deteriorated a bit by Wednesday, will skip running again, but on the improve I think.

Monday Sep 26, 2011 #

Note

VERY sore back today. Probably aggravated by yesterday but did not notice it at the time. I think leg/knee and back issues all related. Need to be careful and constructive this week.

Run (10 Hills) 2:11:32 [3] 17.0 km (7:44 / km) +436m 6:51 / km
shoes: Mizuno Wave Rider 14 -new pair

Bigfoot 10 hills run - could have renamed it 10 rivers run today. A hardy crew of Paula, Tracy, Andy S and me signed up - everyone else must have read an accurate long range weather forecast for torrential rain and flooding in the upper Lane Cove valley. This has to be the wettest run I've ever done. Saturated from head to foot. We nearly lost Paula down one of the rivers. Some spectacular scenery, though it was hard to look up and appreciate it with all the slipping and splashing! All the creeks were raging whitewater torrents and at least knee deep. We heard a tree fall (we think), at the time we were hoping it was not a dam further up the valley bursting. The tracks were either rivulets or lakes depending on the slope.

Very cold for the rest of the morning. Will not be moving far today. Slower than last time, but that is to be expected without Jock forging the pace and given the weather. On a positive note, we did run most of the "official route" and I did manage to run all but one of the hills. That one was a bit of a rock climb, which only Andy ran, just to prove you could.

Run 15:00 [3] 2.5 km (6:00 / km)
shoes: Mizuno Wave Rider 14 -new pair

Ran down to the national park intending to a fast paced 10km (i.e. on the road). Knee got very sore so after a few failed attempts at stretching and massage I decided to walk home & rest it. Have decided it is tight piriformis and ITB and yesterday's back problem is related. Lots of rehab in the next week.

Walk (Mapping) 50:00 [3] 4.0 km (12:30 / km)
shoes: Mizuno Wave Rider 14 -new pair

Woke with a very sore back. Not the usual problem so decided to take have a rest day. Was having trouble sitting in my desk chair so went to do some map updates and this helped relieve the back. Collected 2 disgusting Sydney ticks.

Run 1:17:00 [3] 13.7 km (5:37 / km) +313m 5:03 / km
shoes: Mizuno Wave Rider 14 -new pair

Two Creeks with Eoin. Slower than last week but feel more tired. The GPS trace is his, I was faster on the rough stuff and slower up the hills.

Yoga 1:00:00 [3]

Very tight today. Hips session - spot on what was needed.

Recovery run with Paula. Was not intending to go out today, but hopefully it did me good. Quite stiff.

Orienteering (WA Long Champs) 1:20:26 [3] 9.8 km (8:12 / km) +259m 7:15 / km
shoes: VJ Bold

A good result from a mediocre performance. At least I was thinking most of the time today. Made a couple of dumb route choices (but nowhere near yesterday's debacles) and executed a couple poorly. Had a lot of trouble in the circle - at 4, 8, 11, 12 and 13. A bit wayward on 9 and 14. Poor route to 10. Turned on all the controls apart from 10, 13 and 15 for some reason (I was a later starter). I have major problems interpreting man-made terrain in detail and this showed today.

Got hailed on crossing the field from 12 - 13 which hurt.

Orienteering (WA Middle Champs) 51:38 [3] 6.22 km (8:18 / km) +191m 7:12 / km
shoes: VJ Bold

Not at all a good run. Time lost on 1, 3, 7, 8, 9, 11 of 12 controls. Total mistakes >5 minutes, poor route choice >3 minutes. Left my brain at home today. Hills were steep too.

Run 1:14:57 [3] 13.01 km (5:46 / km) +291m 5:11 / km
shoes: Mizuno Wave Rider 14 -new pair

Two Creeks from home and to Roseville Bridge. Pretty warm day and would have liked a drink a few times. Managed to keep moving.

Distance seems shorter than last few times I've done this run, maybe a bit of funny GPS recording in 3rd km which is inexplicably slow???

Run 35:00 [3] 5.5 km (6:22 / km)
shoes: Mizuno Wave Rider 14 -new pair

Great day! Should have done more but not enough time...

Orienteering 1:20:48 [3] 9.37 km (8:37 / km) +293m 7:27 / km
shoes: VJ Bold

NSW Long Distance. Finally a map that you could run on, too bad I am useless at running up hills at present. Nothing too remarkable about this course, a few wobbles here and there and getting slow towards the end (both apparent in the splits). Not sure how I was not further behind. Legs very tired going up hills, even tough I was only walking.

Orienteering 48:46 [3] 4.65 km (10:29 / km) +130m 9:12 / km
shoes: VJ Bold

Middle Distance at Gardiner's Gap. Started OK but had trouble getting through the vegetation. Lost a bit on 2 (upper boulder) then just slow. Missed 7 (the pivot, which I missed again at 11). Paul Marsh caught me at 12 and with him until 16 where I went to the wrong rocks. Lost a couple on minutes there and then dropped a couple more on the last 2 (easy) controls.

Tracy Super-Marsh 9 minutes ahead! I am about ready to admit my age after that effort.

EDIT: I've looked at the splits & GPS track and am no longer inconsolable. It looks like I managed to navigate reasonably (most of the time) and my compass was better than usual, I was just unlucky(ish) and then lost my nerve. I might hang around a bit longer, so long as I actually manage to do a race like this well at some point in time...

shoes: Mizuno Wave Rider 14 -new pair

Took it easy today.

Yoga 1:00:00 [3]

Hamstrings today. Not feeling a whole lot better than last week, Tuesday is not my day at the moment.

Monday Sep 5, 2011 #

Run 58:52 [3] 10.01 km (5:53 / km) +151m 5:28 / km
shoes: Mizuno Wave Rider 14 -new pair

De-burghs bridge loop. Tried a time trial run to see how much I need to improve to reach Paula's 55 minute target. The answer is a lot. This was very hard work and I even stopped at the top of a few climbs for a breather. I might get 2 minutes credit for not doing the short-cut up the northern end of the loop.

Orienteering 48:27 [3] 6.03 km (8:02 / km) +166m 7:04 / km
shoes: VJ Bold

Fantastic day out at Kahli's Rocks. Glad we made the trip and it only seemed long in the last 30 minutes before getting home.

Ran OK but a few annoying time losses meant Eoin finished 2½ minutes ahead of me. A bit sloppy on 5 but was lucky not to lose any time, off direction on way to 9 and did not pick up the warning sign, climbed too much for 10 (missed track option), wayward on 12 but not as bad as Eoin, slow to 14, off direction to 15, nervous to 16 and off direction to finish. Still need more compass work! Biggest time loss (90 sec) was trying to get over the fence between 7 and 8, and much of the rest was slower running through the open sections.

Run 41:00 [3] 7.2 km (5:42 / km)
shoes: Mizuno Wave Rider 14 -new pair

Two Creeks/Little Diggers. Started off quite hard, had to walk up the last bit of Little Diggers, ran up the road hill to make up for it. This used to be my "flat" track, but it seems to get more eroded each time I go out.
