Running long 1:43:00 [4]
shoes: asics GT-2150

Cockies long Sunday run from Rob and Al's, as of today, old place in Acton. A good small group of Frogga, Miss Jones, Sanders, Devil, Acejase, and MaryMac doing her own thing. RobW was off running to pick up the truck for the move, and ALJ was busy packing.

We crossed ANU and then did the Al Jones Memorial Track, with extension. We then ran up the spur, back on Circumscision track to the lower car park, and finally up to the top of Black Mt. From there it was down the northern side, a full loop of Circumscision, and back up to the top. Next was a loop of Little Black Mt, and finally down through CSIRO and ANU. Acejase made a brief stop as we exited Black Mt reserve to grab a cup of water from the table set up for the Sri Chimnoy off-road duathlon which was due to start soon, and as he said, he didn't take the sports drink.

I tried to push hard on the run a few times, which was hard but I think good as it gets me out of my usual slow and steady pace.

A quick shower and change at Rob and Al's then over to Urban Food for breakfast. It was very crowded but Acejase managed to snare a table. Good coffee and yummy croissant, with a bit of jam.

Then back over to Al and Rob's to help load up the truck/cars and off to their new house at Cook and help unload. Everything was in the house just after midday - amazing how quick it can be with a small hoard of people helping.

Run from home to the southern side of Aranda Bushlands. The Saturday orienteering was at Black Mt Sth, so I decided to use the flatter area on the rural lease to set up a training exercise for the BL squad.

Orienteering 1:00:00 [3]
shoes: asics GT-2150

Training in three stages.

Putting out the tapes for the orienteering exercise which was a map with a collection of jumbled and rotated sections of map corridors with a control circle at each end. You have to find the piece that corresponds to what you can see around you, then orient the map and then navigate using the limited features in the corridor to the next tape .... and repeat. It turns a relatively easy area into something more challenging and interesting. It is a lovely bit of bush - easy to run through, but limited visibility due to the younger growth.

I then met the BL squad and we did the exercise. Richard H charged off, and made a big mistake on the 2nd leg, and everyone except Olle Mill's mum just followed. When they finally made it to the 4th control they all settled down and did the rest of the course without incident. Hopefully they have learned something from their mistakes ... just like the rest of us :)

Last stage was running around picking up the tapes which was a nice 16 minute hit out.

Run to work. A rough reverse of the route home last night. It was around 0 deg, but felt colder - due to the low grey clouds. Give me -5 and sunny any day.

Gym - strength and conditioning 1:00:00 [3]

Body Pump, with MaryMac for company. There weren't many breaks, which meant I was a bit shaky towards the end of some sets.

Run to work. Met a co-worker who was rinding his bike to work along the Lake G bike path. We had a brief chat. He said later that he was impressed that I could run and talk at the same time :)

Running 38:40 [3]

Run home using a longer route which went via John Knight Park, and the southern end of McKellar, and then past MF Primary and home. I felt a bit light headed at one point so walked for a minute which seemed to help.

Gym - cardio 45:00 [4]

Spin class at gym. It was short so I just kept going to bring up 45 mins.

Running 53:30 [3]

Cockies run with lights from Devil's house in O'Connor. Joined by Catherine, Miss Jones, ALJ, Mace and Sanders. We did a loop around O'Connor Ridge then across to Bruce Ridge and ran for quite a while on the single track, and finally back along the top of O'Connor Ridge. I felt really good tonight, and tried to be strong up any of the hills - Devil kindly kept pace with me and didn't blow me away.

Afterwards we had curried pumpkin and lentil soup with home baked wholemeal bread, and followed up with moist banana cake. yummmmmm :) With the fire going, and the King lounge to lounge on it was hard to head back out into the cold to go home. These runs are turning into gourmet night.

Run to work. I think this is about 1 minute quicker than previous best - definitely need to find (make up) a longer route.

Running 31:30 [3]

Run to work. The radio said it was -4 degrees so I ummed and arred a bit, but then thought it looked nice outside so decided to run - by the time I got going the sun was up which made things seem warmer. Went via Melba, then along some watercourses through Florey, dodging the frozen water.
6 PM

Running 1:03:00 [4]

RPM class after work - the extended 60 minute version on Monday evening.
