Running 1:00:00 [3] 12.3 km (4:53 / km) +80m 4:43 / km
ahr:150 max:167

Had planned a mountain run, but since there were low clouds at my parents place (about 300m) decided not to bother and did Bellerive Beach to Tranmere and back.
Bit of a struggle, headwind on the way out didn't help - pretty happy it was over with. I'm now officially acclimatised - low 20s felt quite cool and refreshing.
Noticed another fruit and veg shop has renamed itself ' Food Store', in this case 'Howrah Point Food Store'. Makes about 10 now in and around Hobart.

Running tempo 42:00 [4] 9.0 km (4:40 / km)
ahr:150 max:178 shoes: Kayanos

Time to start adding some speed into the sessions again, think I've lost a bit in the past month. Tried my hand at a Mona Fartlek - enjoyed it actually, though keeping the floats at a good pace was tough after the 1 min surges.
As usual I would do this type of session better in a group - will have to check when the local running clubs have tracks sessions and if punters can come along.

Note
(rest day)

Stupid weather. If it's going to be hot, at least be sunny.

I'm trying very hard not to post in the NOL weekend after Easter event timing thread.

Orienteering race 45:40 [4] 5.9 km (7:44 / km) +200m 6:37 / km
ahr:167 max:185

Camp Champs at Constable Creek. For something different, we did a peg race!
It was all the boys together. I wasn't planning on taking any of the pegs, just doing all the extra legs, but decided not to when I got to the first control first! Got 5/9 pegs. Got lucky on a couple of the legs, with the detour being faster than the main leg. Felt good racing, also navigating well when I was in the lead. Came unstuck when I'd gotten behind and caught up to the pack to find they were in the wrong place!

Running 46:00 [3] 7.3 km (6:18 / km) +200m 5:33 / km
ahr:140 max:172 shoes: Kayanos

Tour on the Domain with Pookie, 3m and Nicko in his first run since the JWOC relay! Thought I'd struggle after the Camp Champs earlier in the day but felt pretty good cept for struggling on the surges. Felt like a tour of old with lots of banter and sledging, funny how it feels so familiar considering its been over 1.5 years since I last did them. Ryans sledging has improved significantly, even if it was in my direction after a navigation malfunction I was kind of proud how much he's improved.

Points:
Nicko: 161 (Not getting lost for the 1st time ever)
Emma: 155 (Capitalising on all ladies legs, winning the final ever important double points leg)
Patrick: 154 (+Coping with a disintegrating map, - running down the wrong track too often)
Ryan: -4120 (+good sledging, -for the unfortunate 'Being Ryan' penalty, -complaining about points)

Orienteering 1:18:00 [1] 6.1 km (12:47 / km)
ahr:101 shoes: Inov8 Roclites

Long line course on Jasons Task. Shadowed Gav on this one, he did OK - came off the line a fair bit but realised pretty quickly and corrected well.
The area (north of the highway) was burnt out quite well and is now super fast and has incredible visibility, I think one of the days of the March weekend is there so should be fun. Unfortunately some scumbag has dumped a crap load of oil on the western edge (amongst all the sawdust dumps), it absolutely stunk in the warm weather. Bit of a shame that that area is becoming a bit of a unofficial tip, also with all the scallop and oyster shell piles getting bigger every year.

Orienteering 40:00 [4] 4.0 km (10:00 / km)
shoes: Inov8 Roclites

3 head to head short butterfly loops, again on Jasons Task but south of the highway. No one wanted to pair off with me (frowny face), so just did them by my lonesome! Did the first pretty good, albeit with some left/right drifting. Nailed the 2nd, spiked every control. Threw the map away and ran around like a muppet on the last (more new earthworks/fire breaks didn't help).
Was funny coming across the juniors in the forest - some of their mistakes are classic when they're racing, ridiculous exit directions, running right past the controls - I don't know how many times we mentioned the importance of looking left and right in the circle during debriefings, but they kept on doing it!

Orienteering 1:10:00 [2] 6.25 km (11:12 / km) +150m 10:00 / km
ahr:118 shoes: Inov8 Roclites

Shadowed Amy B. on a contour only map of Littlechild Creek. She did pretty well, only overshot one and nailed quite a few of them. Contour only maps rule! So much easier without all that rock!

Orienteering 45:00 [2] 2.5 km (18:00 / km)

Shadowed a few juniors (can't remember who now), on different loops of the super granitey area of Littlechild Creek just north of the Billabong. Maps either had just rock, just contours or everything - to show how much more useful contours are than everything else. Just rock was way hard, I couldn't do it and had to bluff my way through most of the time!

Orienteering 1:00:00 [2] 5.6 km (10:43 / km)
ahr:126 shoes: Inov8 Roclites

Shadowed Oscar and Callum on a control picking/relocation exercise on Chiron. They had separate maps with either odd/even controls marked and took turns relocating. Pretty impressed with both of them, only one of 2 mistakes each and one I didn't pick up on until we reached the control (something like 24 before 23), neither of them were moving as fast as they usually seem to which I think had a lot to do with it.
Awesome area, hope to run the March long weekend 3 days there.

Orienteering 1:00:00 [3] 5.0 km (12:00 / km)
ahr:121 shoes: Inov8 Roclites

Putting out controls for the next exercise (1km-ish O-tervals) on the Moonscape. A few new tracks putting me off combined with no compass meant it took me a long time to put the flags out. Luckily came across the fastest group after their first leg so joined in the last 3. Was good fun - lots of lead changing and some good sledging from Mike D. (when he could keep up).
