Note
weight:159lbs

On the road all day (5:15 AM TO 7:15 PM). Setting out road signage for Race Across AMerica from Greensburg IN to Chillicothe OH. A little walking and light lifting, but not really anything to count as training. Joined in welcoming the first riders as they arrived at Oxford time station that evening.

The day ended up taking longer than it should have, partly due to encountering a road closure for culvert replacement. Had to do a few extra miles checking the alternate route, then it took some time to contact RAAM HQ, get the re-route approved, and then backtrack to put up extra signage on the re-route.

orienteering race 3:40:02 [4] ***
51c weight:159lbs shoes: Jalas hi-top O' shoes

OLOU Score O at Shelby Trails. 4 hour time limit. Cleared all controls. Light rain with regular rumbles of thunder kept things cool for the first two hours, but then the sun emerged and with it came heat and humidity. One control was washed away by a flooded creek. Fortunately, no orienteers met the same fate!

The race started with 30 standard SI controls, then was followed by a map exchange. The second map had 21 NACMO (equestrian orienteering) style controls, so a pen was required to write down codes. Additionally, only 11 of the controls were shown on the map. 9 of those had a bearing and a distance to a bonus control (you could plot it and not have to go straight line or immediately). The remaining two had only bearings which triangulated the final control. Normal control descriptions were available for all controls so you knew what to look for once you had an approximate bearing and distance.
