Yowzer! I had a good old-fashioned proper blowup on 21. The less said about that the better. Otherwise, it was sort of just meh uninspired orienteering, feeling pretty fatigued.

Never mind the orienteering; Medicine Bow Peak was the real objective for the day. It was about 40F and overcast at the trailhead, and the wind was pretty brutal at times as I climbed beyond the trees, but I had my trusty Cotopaxi jacket + rain shell + light jacket in reserve, which kept me comfortably warm. I passed some groups of 20-somethings who were severely underdressed in running shorts and light jacket, and were cold and unhappy. Also ran into a guy who had the same hiking pack.

Classic at Area 307. In a word, blarf. Way too much time loss for what was largely trivial nav. For some reason I was fighting my compass (and losing) on some of the longer legs like 5 and 24, which led to some janky af lines that should have been cake. Also lost time on 8 and 11; the latter I counted four separate poor decisions. Still, another really cool area out here and a fun course which made great use of the complicated rock areas.

I was bored in the afternoon so went to find some chill hiking. I located The Old Miner's Cabin (Achievement Unlocked) and chatted with some elk hunters.

Classic distance at Sugar Hill. Felt stronger than yesterday, better able to attack - at least until 17 or so, then was walking more of the uphills and suffering for lack of a Gu, which I forgot to pack as usual. One 30s mistake at 8 and a poor route choice to 21 which I was aghast to learn cost as much as a minute. 5+ min behind Joe, a couple ahead of Eric who was moving better than he has in a while which was good to see.

Laramie! One Cowperson Relay at a map called Aspen Meadows. Made three significant mistakes, felt the altitude hard, ran slow. Nominally I won, but only because Joe had a work call and missed the mass start by like 20 min; in reality he got me by 3-4 min. I wore my new GoPro and was blown away by the stability and video quality compared to the last one I had, which to be fair it's been a minute.
