Mountain biking (Bangert with Jacob) 49:00 [1] 4.0 mi (4.9 mph) +75ft
shoes: Trek MTB

Jacob's previous enthusiasm for the ride idea evaporated today, but we made him go anyway. Once we were there he was glad, then hated his bike, then had fun again and tried some new things. Definitely worth a round-trip drive that was twice our ride time. Also actually got Jeff on the bike for 1/2 mile or so (while I ran behind him in bike shoes and the helmet he wouldn't wear), after which he allowed that he might ride similar trails again. It would be awesome to get him even the tiniest bit involved.

Trail running (Little Woods) 58:38 [3] 4.6 mi (12:45 / mi) +259ft 12:06 / mi
shoes: Merrell All Out Peak

Evening run with Patrick. Trails in surprisingly good shape despite recent rain. No mud. Definitely need to do more regular running so it can suck at a faster pace.

Biking intervals (MCT short loop) 49:48 [4] 12.9 mi (15.5 mph) +335ft
shoes: Airborne Delta CX

Quick ride while supper defrosted. Warmed up, then 30 sec hard/1 min recovery intervals for the next 30 min. Much more fun with the initial tailwind than the second-half headwind.

Orienteering (Clearing practice course) 1:46:13 [3] 3.1 mi (34:16 / mi) +407ft 30:28 / mi
shoes: Merrell All Out Peak

Moving time was 56:45. I don't think I was standing around for 45 minutes, though I was certainly moving pretty slowly here and there. Split the practice course with Dave & Leisha; they dropped me off at one end and went to the CPs you could access via car, while I trekked in a circle to get the less accessible ones. Attacked basically opposite the route we took at Saturday's field practice, so it was good practice for me...plus plenty of hills to climb!

A couple bobbles. Trekked over a hill to trail instead of taking the long way on the road; thought I'd aimed off enough but ended up getting onto trail JUST past the jct I was looking for and had a nice run in the wrong direction until I caught the mistake. Literally could have seen the CP from where I hopped onto the trail had I just looked to the right.

The other two I struggled on were bc I was "remembering" what the spot looked like (incorrectly, as it turned out). Had such a hard time with the first of these that after a few times walking back and forth just looking for the flag I had to go find the next and then shoot a bearing back to where I needed to go. And then I "recognized" the wrong hill and had a nice hike to the top, only to see Leisha heading to the correct one after I didn't find the flag. In both cases I'd have been just fine if I'd continued to rely on the map. Lesson learned (or, probably, re-learned not for the last time).

Orienteering (Clearing race nav) 48:20 [3] 2.1 mi (23:01 / mi) +459ft 19:04 / mi
shoes: Merrell All Out Peak

Moving time 36:54

Split race course at Palisades with Dave, Leisha, and Matt M. They dropped me off again, this time at the corner of the park due to private property/closed park roads. Zero problems with my three points, no bobbles. Started with a 400-foot climb, which was fun. Did some running too. Just as I finished they texted that they were too, so I ran out to the highway and they picked me up.

Very fun, and very encouraging. Orienteering is a blast when it's going well.
