Hmmmm.... Will you *want* to do 100 miles of that? ;)

Bleagh. There may be a magical cocktail of special drinks and capsules that let me run over 10 hours, but I agree, doesn't sound fantastic. I wish I could just breeze into the aid station and shovel real food down like you guys.

It doesn't sound very appealing, but I can see the merits of given the stomach as little work as possible. I'd give it a shot and then see how much real food I could introduce, and when.
Did you get any indication of a target rate of consumption?

Actually, the food/nutrition sounds downright appetizing when compared with the current state of nausea that seems to be most commonly present. I think that "the sweet nectar of success" may make the "meals" more palatable. Go for it 'Bent!

Enough with the spiz already. That's the stuff that's killing you, man. It's poison. And just go with water and succeed tabs; conventional sports drinks will make you just as nauseous and rot your teeth at the same time.

We'll, I don't exactly shovel in the food, but yes I get to enjoy real stuff.

I think it sounds great. Very similar to what I use. Carbopro and elecrolyte drinks. Then I add SIS gels, potatoes & chips from aid stations, fruit cups at halfway point, elevate bar if I can stomach it.
All the real food at CCC/UTMB made me sick to look at it. I'll eat that all after the race....for days.
I hope this proves to be the solution 'bent.

I first read this line "something lighter than Spiz or Vitargo,"

as "something lighter than Spiz or Viagra"

Well, not sure if Viagara will get you "up" the mountains.

Trav, Spiz was suggested to me as the nectar of the gods for the nauseous - Not so much.

I agree about the sports drinks rotting your teeth and turning your gut- she wants me to experiment and see if there's something I find palatable. I'd have water in the bottle to drink and rinse off all the sports gunk from my teeth.

Succeed tabs are just electrolytes, no? Somewhere I have a feeling you need the odd calorie to run 40-45 hours.
I tell ya, an IV is looking better and better.

Yep Succeed is just an electrolyte. Here's my rhythm for any hot weather run under 6 hours: the first hour: just water and succeed. Succeed on the 15 and 45. after the first hour and every hour after that: bar, succeed, gel, succeed, repeat. So every 15 minutes something. Water to wash it all down and whenever you feel like it.

As Tarno will tell you, after 6-9 hours of that crap your body will start craving more savoury "real" foods. Salted nuts, crushed chips, potatoes dredged in salt replace the gels when that happens. Keep the gels handy for emergencies, though.

Now, I've never done this for more than 21 hours (being the longest I've been able to run before being overwhelmed by the realization that I should just go to sleep now--ask Balogna), but it seems to have been a workable solution that doesn't leave your mouth full of cancres and bombed out teeth.

It does lead to some monumental post race dumps though.

Keeping my fingers crossed that something will work, Bent! :)

At UTMB, I survived on nothing but Honey Stinger chews, caffeinated gels, Justin's Nut Butter, pasta with tomato sauce, cookies, honey cake, sausage, cheese, bananas, oranges, soup, bread, coffee, Coke, plain water and S-Caps. (Burp!)

I think the problem I run into is during that "craving real food" part after 7-10 hours. My gut doesn't seem to agree with my head. Looking forward to seeing the plan MT comes up with.

I've been experimenting with Tailwind. The 'unflavoured' mix has a "kinda gross" flavour to it, so not entirely sure how that will go. Will find out next week and report back.
