Glad to keep hearing people say they did okay during this storm. Wish it could be that way for everyone. It looks like it will take some time for lower Manhattan to clean up.

I think we're pretty safe from all those things you mentioned here, too, except maybe people carrying guns (during hunting season folks hunt on land adjacent to ours and sometimes stray...).

Only flooding we're going to get is if the water table rises during heavy rains. Nearest creek is a good 0.2 mi away and 40' down the hill, and it's usually only 1-2' wide.

Ticks!

Ireland is way safer. No bears at all. Fewer guns. Similar proportion of poor drivers. No rabies. No earthquakes, droughts, snowstorms...

...Of course all that means is that something else will end up getting you....

The NYTimes published a comprehensive piece about the storm damage with lots of charts, maps and pictures. Interestingly it was the flooded sewage-treatment plants spreading the wastewater of 8 million New Yorkers through the subways, streets and buildings that were one of the greatest threats.

Can report that at the foot (@ 35 m) of Mr. Battie, Camden, ME, it's safe as well; maybe not fully for evangelicals but when we spot some we quickly morph into Bensonwiches.
