A lot to say, here... A very entertaining and inspiring account. Thanks.

I still think that CSU should own international ARDF. You and Lori are a formidable force; I expect you to obliterate the competition.

Thanks! I look forward to it. Shtanko (top of podium) knows neither fear nor pain.

Yes, fine story, and an especially well-earned triumph in the 2m, despite what you may feel.

He will fall before you. I can smell his fear from here.

"knows neither fear nor pain." Being a Sergei myself, I can confirm this. But unlike myself, I am confident that you can bring him down!

Well done Ian,
Been ARDFer for over 30 years now I cant even imagine what you were experiencing with wrong antenna setup on 2 meters. But because you did fight to the end - this what makes you a TRUE Champion.
I never heard #1 and also ran over ALL map just to make sure it is indeed dead and not that I just do not hear it for some reason.
I know you dont like 2 meters, but this is were Shtanko is the strongest M21 - 3 times World Champion on 2 meters. Try to scare him there :)))
Indeed 2 meters is not that bad if you KNOW HOW to distinguish correct bearing from all that mess and use correct technique to get right bearings. If you want to improve your 2 meter skills - I am at your disposal.

P.S. You had impressive 80 meters race, but not that impressive as mine :) You only beat at the finish split and only because I faced a mount lion and had to navigate away from this nasty animal I always was scared

P.S.S I really think we should have ARDF as part of CSU

I think we should have mountain lions as part of CSU. Then all will cow before us.

I suppose we have cages for them at Franklin Park.

j-man, what's this 'us' of which you speak?

coach:
I must say, the prospect of running into a mountain lion at Mt Laguna pretty much guarantees I will never go there...

iansmith:
feet, does your above comment indicate that you're rejoining CSU as a primary club?

feet:
No, but when the chips are down (at Jukola), I am more us than the j-man, who, faced with the opportunity to run for DVOA, un-ussed hisself. In other words, he's a bit of an usshole.

(And, in any case, I have always been a primary-club member of WCOC.)

j-man:
I don't know what you are talking about, sir feet. I have never foresworn an opportunity to run for DVOA, and when the chips are down, as they will be in a week and a half, DVOA will take yours.

That said, you as an mathemathical economist, and me as an aspiring philosopher, know that "usses" are manifold, and set theory and venn diagrams can help us to make sense of the intersections of our existences.

We can all be friends here.

Great job - you own this sport :-) go CSU

Thus the trashtalking began...

I have renewed my CSU membership within the past year. When was the last time feet was a CSU member of any stripe, let alone a primary one? The hypocrisy is appalling.
Jun 5, 2012 12:35 PM #
feet:
As recently as Boris, if not more so, is my guess. Or Matthias. Or probably Mikkel. CSU is not so much a club as a notion floating in the zeitgeist. If you have to send in a membership form in an attempt to belong, then is CSU really for you?

aka, how I learned to stop worrying and love da bomb CSU.
Jun 5, 2012 4:51 PM #
j-man:
Presumably not as recently as Mikkel. Because he is a member of the 2011 US Champion relay team. And that presupposes he is a primary member of CSU, or at least was within the past 12 months. Right?
