Hanging Controls. My heel is still sore from hanging controls yesterday. I was able to hang 5 by driving to them, parking the car, then hopping over to the control location. I wanted to hang two more this way but the parking lot was full so I couldn't park near the control.
Finally parked car for real then walked, jogged to hang he rest. Got back in plenty of time for Start.
Rest of the day, just hung around talking to people before after their run at UMD 90 minute Sprint Rogaine (42 controls that to get them all is about 8.2 miles). Seven people got them all. The good news is that the routes weren't obvious so people took a lot of different routes to the controls.
Early in the day someone called saying a control was missing. i ran out to hang a new one but the control was there. They admitted later that they were in the wrong spot.
There were plenty of people for control pickup so I didn't have to do that but could just sit and relax my heel.

Hanging controls for University of Maryland Sprint Rogaine (90 minutes). Because this was college campus I didn't want to hang the controls too early so they wouldn't disappear. Got there about 3:30pm. It was sunny but very windy. I was carrying a lot of stuff 30 controls and 5 control stands which made it difficult to run. initial controls went slow. I decided to hand the woods ones first figuring they had the least chance of walking away. My first control location had a person standing right there so I didn't hang it. I had to come back at the end to hang it which added more distance. Once I got into the budling section, the controls hanging went much quicker which was good because I was getting worried that it would be after dark.

Treadmill (2 incline) 36:36 [3] 4.0 mi (9:09 / mi)

It was cooler and raining out so I ran on the treadmill. Heel hurt for the first part then stopped. I didn't push the pace so kept is slow like always.

Orienteering (mapping) 1:51:17 [1] 4.92 mi (22:37 / mi)
ahr:91 max:135 shoes: Asics Kayano 30 2023

I was making a final check of the construction areas on the University of Maryland map, and checking the stream crossings. There was one new crossing point in the construction area and some shrunk in size.
It was good I checked the stream crossing because it has changed. I hadn't gone all the way down the stream previously and there were a lot of down trees now..

I jogged easy out (and back) from the parking area, and walked the rest of the time. I was still a little sore from yesterday but not too bad. My heel is still very sore though.

3 hour rogaine at Gambrills state park. There was an 8 hour option but that was too far for me given my heel and lack of training. I cramped last weekend with a 2 hour night O. I did survive without cramping but was pretty tired.

I didn't try to maximize points but went where I though would be more fun. i did get the prolog bonus control. Last year I ran to the far part of the map first. This year I cleared the close in controls then went north to the far part. The close in took longer than I anticipated, and the climbs on the course (there were a lot) were killing me time wise. I had to start cutting out controls in the far part as I was going to be over time. I thought i would be more overtime than I was but I still had enough left in the tank to make a good jog back in. I think I got all but 5 controls.
I got burned early in the course with hitting fight that wasn't' on the map.
Later one lost time on a rocky area that the map showed as continuous but it wasn't. I thought I had hit the end so turned around. Also lot time when I made a stupid 180 mistake out of a control and when 300 meter the wrong direction just merrily going until I got to the trail. Then realized what I did and ran the trail right back by the control I had just punched.
All in all I had a good time.
