Note

Exhausted!
Rogaine training at the CNYO Regaine where a 6-hour score O was offered (singles--no teams). Managed 571 of the possible 1900 points, in about 5:45. More tomorrow when I can download FR (don't tell them I said that!). As first woman (of two) I won a tube(?) of Zanfel and a garden decoration that looks like a giant mosquito. ;-) Thanks, CNYO!

A bit of jogging on the downhills, but mostly walking/hiking on trails/roads or through the woods. Fell 3 times, no major scrapes, blisters, or bruises, though I felt pretty beat up afterwards and the next morning.

My favorite control? The island in the pond near start/finish, canoe provided. ;-)

Least favorite, at least from where I attacked it, was the one I eventually got to first, an hour and 10 minutes into the event. From where I attacked I had a ton of unmapped logged areas with all kinds of muddy roads running through them. In one I got both legs stuck most of the way to the knees, and would have lost a shoe or two if I hadn't been wearing gaiters to which the shoes were attached. Should have thought about where the control was likely set from (a trail 150m away, not the road corner 600m away). Second least favorite was the first one I tried to get and then bailed after searching for 15 minutes; I had time to look again near the end of my loop and eventually found it downstream (I think) from the circled location.

I probably should have trekked over to the west edge of the map just to see the view (I heard later the control marker had been vandalized...I think only the punch was left behind?) -- it was a clearing that overlooks the next valley and a lake at the Labrador Unique Area (which includes forested wetlands and a boardwalk that loops around to a lake overview). It's also a hang-glider launching point, though we didn't see anyone hang-gliding. :-)

Not a lot of people did the score O (7 or 8?); there were 25 doing the REgaine. Nice weather for the event with temperatures in the low to mid 60s throughout (I think 50s overnight for those staying) and no real rain, just light sprinkles some of the time.
