O - competition race (NA Rogaine Champs) 23:45:00 [3] 78.0 km (18:16 / km)

Don't know details of distance; will have to figure it out and add. [measured at 78 km; less than usual, but lost lots of time at the stop]

Somewhat painful experience with Glen Brake. First 12 hours saw regular rain showers, some hard, and lots of wet vegetation. Feet stayed together rather well, but o-pants and running shorts underneath got soaked and did some serious chaffing action. Ok until about midnight, then thighs said enough was enough. Think raw beef. In fact left thigh swelled up and looked like an uncooked quarter pounder was slapped on the inside of my leg.

Went back to the hash house for repairs and changed clothing plan. Lots of Bag Balm and Neosporin cooled the burn. Some Ibu dropped the pain to tolerable and we headed out for the second half.

Running was cut back quite a bit and buskwacking over the usual logs and brush was just dandy.

Generally nav was good, but fell behind plan and got caught out without our heavy duty lights when we got into the trickest section (66 and 25). Our mini-LED lights didn't cut it in the convoluted terrain and had to bail, much to our disgust. Did much better when we picked up the big lights during the hash house stop (my 12 watt LED headlamp courtesy of Dan).

Enjoyed the excellent map, terrain and event put on by Francis. Pleasure factor will further increase once the scabs form and fall off and I forget about the periods of discomfort.

Don't know full results, but Joe B took overall and Glen and I won supervets.
