cycling 45:00 [1]

Work commute.

Instead of exercising after work I did some fieldchecking around Daisy Hill.

running 1:20:00 [1]

I drove to work and then ran on the river trails after work. I have this idea that I'm going to try to do that 3-4 times a month during the summer.

Note

Some interesting O' news from an OK perspective.

Sanna is on going to represent Sweden at the MTB O' World Cup in Poland (and, in case you didn't know, Magnus is the national team leader for MTB O').

Henrik Gothberg made a really slick video of the European Orienteering Champs - definitely worth a look:

cycling 45:00 [1]

Work commute (including adding a little bit to my project).

I also biked to/from the grocery store.

running 1:30:00 [2]

Trail run at Clinton. I set my Garmin to beep using the interval timer (5 minutes/0.33 km) and each time it beeped I stopped for a few seconds, looked around, figured out what the map might look like, then checked the map. It was a way to work a little bit of orienteering practice into a trail run. I made a point of getting in a few extra hills.

Note

Yesterday's sprint race with the GoPro on the chest mount and with the video stabilized using Youtube. Oh, and some music from Youtube for the first 5 or 6 minutes.

I think the chest mount and the stabilizing worked pretty well. It is different from a headcam view.

Around 9:21 in the video I scare a little girl who is looking at the SI unit in the playground. As I approached, I said something like "Hi, there" but she didn't hear me or didn't react very quickly and it seems like I scared her a bit. Sorry about that.

PTOC sprint at Antioch Park. The park is small, but nice for a park sprint. There are enough things going on to keep it interesting and the park has a lot of shade (especially nice on a warm sunny day like today).

My run was not too terrible. I didn't seem to ever feel like I was sharp. I had some extra stops in the little wooded area with trails where the map didn't fit what I'd expected. I think it was my lack of a good picture of what was coming as opposed to a problem with the map.

Jogging around to warm up.

Note

I've been calling the map "Daisy Hill." But, I'm wondering if it should have another name, like "Phog Allen Fieldhouse and Daisy Hill."

A sprint orienteering course on the in-progress Daisy Hill map. Hot.

I felt ok. I was a bit unsure how I'd feel. On Friday I was unmotivated all day. I drove to/from work (I had some stuff in my car that I had to get back to the office). I didn't do anything other than watching some of the SVT coverage of EOC while Mary was out at Final Fridays. I went to be early. I slept nearly 12 hours. Today I've felt ok all day. So, whatever the problem was seems to have passed.

I wore the GoPro on a chest mount. You can see the results by clicking on the little globe.

UPDATE: I used the Youtube image stabilizing function and it seems to work ok. I should try it on a higher quality video to see how that goes.

running 45:00 [2]

Easy run on the trails at Clinton. I'd planned to run the river trails right after work but forgot to bring my running shoes. Doh!

Spent some time watching these videos put together as part of the TV production for the EOC:

Trail run at Clinton. I felt pretty good. It was warm, but not too bad. When I was done, I rested in the shade.

cycling 1:10:00 [1]

Work commute plus some exploring to add to my project. The weather was comfortable (as opposed to blazing hot) and I pushed the pace a bit on my way home.

I feel recovered from my kitchen injury.

Friday May 18, 2012 #

running 40:00 [2]

Jogged at Clinton.

In other news, I dropped an ice cube on the floor in the kitchen. I bent down to pick it up and seem to have tweaked/strained my left hamstring. That's pretty sad.

cycling 45:00 [1]

Work commute.

I'll probably need to drive to work tomorrow and Friday. That'll mean I only biked to work 3 times on bike-to-work-week.

running 45:00 [2]

Jogging on the trails at Clinton. I carried the map and took a look at it now and then. I didn't feel very good.

cycling 45:00 [1]

Work commute.

As part of bike-to-work week the City Commissioners arrived for tonight's meeting on bikes. Cool.

I stayed through the "study session" and then came home and mowed.

running 1:55:00 intensity: (1:45:00 @2) + (10:00 @4)

Trail run at Clinton. I put in 10 minutes at an honest effort near the end. This was a satisfying run in that the longer I went the better I felt. That's unusual.

I took one good Fa. A Fa is part of a Fall. If you stumble on a rock and fall to the ground, that's a fall. But, if you stumble and by reflex wave your arm to regain balance and manage to remain upright, that's a Fa. For it to truly be a Fa, you have to actually strain a muscle in your arm as you flail about trying to regain your balance. I'm pretty sure I never took a Fa until after I turned 40.

I kept expecting to see Mary on the trails, but didn't until the near the end.

PTOC sprint at Kill Creek (followed by a potluck and the annual PTOC meeting). Fun despite some allergy problems that made breathing a chore. Nice cool temps and plenty of cloud cover helped.

Here is the headcam video + GPS + O' map:

cycling 45:00 [1]

Work commute. I added a few blocks to my project. I'm still making progress, but the rate of progress is slowing down. That's because it isn't as easy to just change my regular commute and add blocks. I'm going to have to actually make more of an effort to add new areas.

I biked first thing in the morning - working on adding to my project. I think I saw MeanGene in the distance taking photos of a 5K near Wakrusa and 15th.

Saturday May 5, 2012 #

running 1:30:00 [1]

Trail run at a slow pace at Clinton. Warm and humid. I felt ok. I felt much better than the run on the river trails earlier this week.

I carried maps and checked out a few things along the trails.

I also made it home just in time to hear the end of the women's race at 10-mila in Borensberg. I'm wondering if some of the technical problems they're having with the online coverage have anything to do with Borensberg being a bit out of the way.

2

Friday May 4, 2012 #

Note

Pretty cool that 10-mila is at Borensberg. I did a bunch of training (and a little bit of mapping) in that area when I ran for OKS Ljungsbro. I also see that the Silva Cup sprint seems to be a block away from the place I lived in Linkoping.

Note

The GPS tracking is just starting - the start is on Atlasgatan...I lived at the corner of Atlasgatan and Valhallagatan just a short block from the start.

cycling 45:00 [1]

Work commute.

Mowed the lawn when I got home and that - combined with warm and humid conditions - seemed like enough. I think my lack of sleep and some allergy trouble didn't help my mood to do more.

1

I'm listening to 10 mila coverage. My new favorite Swedish phrase might be, "10 mila viskningen."

Thursday May 3, 2012 #

Work commute. I added a little bit to my project.

Wednesday May 2, 2012 #

running 1:25:00 [2]

On the river trails. I felt good for about an hour, then just felt wiped out. I think it was a combination of a warm/humid day, getting up a bit early, and not sleeping well last night.

rowing 20:00 [1]

Row, row.

I was at work a bit late to listen in on the study session discussion of a new police building. $30 million at this stage. That's a lot of money.

I also figured out how to use R to do some "text mining" like I saw at the KU session last week. Just for fun, I pulled some tweets with the #lawrence hash tag and then did some simple "text mining."
