ahr:113 max:149 shoes: Viathon M1 GX

Pandaplace
Mostly the opposite of Monday's route without doing Skullcap. Easy pace.

My watch stopped accidentally at the bottom of Beauty. Semi-cleaned Beauty. Only 2 spots where I really put my foot down. A couple of other small touches and lots of upper body work though.

Saw someone riding a Cross bike up Snakeroot. Saw them on Mt Zion on my drive home before my ride.

Saturday Nov 28, 2020 #

Note

Skip ran 3 miles with KT. No limp afterward.

Midnight Moonlight Run w/Zitch

Actually only 6pm but dark. The moon wasn't all the way up either which meant it wasn't quite as bright as usual. I started about 2 hours after the moonrose. Would have been good I think if I had waited another 2 hours.

Had to use my light a few spots on the Gaines property and all the way up Poverty Creek. No light needed once I got to Pandapas.

Hiking 52:13 [0] 1.07 mi (48:48 / mi) +418ft 35:37 / mi

Family Midnight Moonlight hike.
Just walked up Homeplace and took the trail to the top of the mountain. Carried the girls some.

Riding around campus w/Nut/Z
The girls requested that we go for another ride. E wanted some time in the trailer. So after riding the Oak Lane hills she got in the trailer and we rode over to the start of the Huckleberry. E was eventually wishing she was riding her bike again. Only so many miles.

Stopped for lunch, feeding ducks, and to see that Lattanzi dogs (and their owners).

Kelly's Knob w/Zitch
Nice weather. Legs were slow and tired. A little better once they warmed up.

Trailhead was empty. Didn't see anyone else until the last mile.

Too long and risky for Skip to come too. Zitch was sore afterwards.
2 PM

Road Biking 54:24 [0] 2.55 mi (2.8 mph)
ahr:99 max:132 shoes: Giro Rumble

Riding around campus w/Nut/Z
Nut on her bike riding like a champ!
E crazy strong on her strider!
Super impressed with them and they had a blast. They specifically liked the downhills on our way back from Oak Lane.
E was disappointed she didn't get to go in the trailer at all.

Pandaplace
Nice ride. Felt pretty good.

NFS was out blowing the trails on Gap again. I am assuming again in preparation for some prescribed burns that are advertised. The trails were great to ride on. Surprisingly they didn't blow the Pipe so I opted to ride back PCT instead.

ahr:139 max:157 shoes: Salomon Trailster

Pandapas
I wanted something less hilly and technical. Perfect for the summer loop.

No dogs. Skip is still healing. The trails were a bit crowded but not too much.

Same loop as May 2019 but it recorded >half mile longer despite no water stops. That is a big difference. Crazy to think my last watch was that bad. I think this run's pace was slower than it says though.

McCoy
Nice weather w/ a slight chill in the deep reentrants. Pace was a bit slower than I would have expected. A little bit hillier than my recent loop.

Realized I probably could have done a MTB instead but only after I already had my shoes on and didn't have a ton of time so I just left.

Lick Run
Moderate pace but not really pushing. Had to put on some extra clothes as it is getting cold. Wasn't sure what it would be like running in the gorge either.

Still could feel the bruise some in my L Knee.

Brush Loop w/Bushwhack w/Zitch/Skip
Late start. Dusk ended just as I started to descend/bushwhack Brush but didn't need the light yet. Had to take it easy though. My knee caught a tree stump and lost strength/stability plus it was wet, leafy, and getting dark. I do think I found a better way to get across the creek. At the bottom my route was clear but still a bit slow and inefficient because of the lack of light.

I was setting a pretty easy pace but it was slowed further when I got to PCT because my headlamp was dead. Tried to use it some but it was out of almost all juice. I don't think I used it from Headhunter all the way home. Tried to use the dogs to guide me across the top of Homeplace.

Skip is limping (Back left leg). Could be his other knee. I didn't notice anything on the run but it was hard for me to see them and tell them apart for the last 45 minutes.

New Garmin 745 which was sent to me for free to replace the 645 (because the altimeter wasn't working) seems to be working pretty reasonably. I am going to keep it. Major kudos to Garmin for stepping up big time to take care of a customer. The elevation estimates on the 645 were horrendous. Paid $180 for the 645 and ended up getting a brand new 745 (selling for $500). I likely would have bought this watch myself in another 2 years.

Allegheny Springs
Road while the car was getting inspected. A bit windy (HW in Floyd) and finished just before dark. Comfortable pace.

My favorite road ride. Was thinking how I would love to live in a gorge like this, sans the road. Absolutely beautiful. Especially today with all the water from Wed/Thurs rain. Rivers were overflowing. Creeks were high but not crazy.

Came down Mt. Pleasant. I thought it would save me some time distance but it didn't. Most of the dirt is paved now. The remaining dirt was fast except for one section that clearly washed out this week. There were lots of tight and blind turns though. Georges Run is definitely the better choice.

ahr:135 max:156 shoes: Salomon Speedcross Pro

Pandaplace w/Zitch/Skip
Rain was off and on during the run. Lots of rain earlier meant the creek was up and trails were wet. Temps were warm though.

Legs were tired so I took an easy pace. Pushed the hills only because I had to in order to keep my legs moving.

Dogs spotted some deer just before the house and Skip wouldn't drop the scent.

Rowdy Dawg XXC Course
Had planned to do this yesterday as a Tough Dog double with BMB but it was so crowded at Pandapas on Saturday that I figured Sunday would be about the same. So I pushed it a day which worked out great. MUCH fewer people out today.

Weather was just about perfect. A tad warm on the climbs but cool otherwise. I staged 2 bottles in the middle of the 2 loop course. Was anxious to go hard at the beginning but paced myself. Pace was still faster than my recent rides (per Strava). Overall my time was faster than I was expecting which was great. My pace was a bit slower on the second lap but only 3 min slower!

Struggled on the rock on Gap the first time through, a bit less the second time. Had some chain trouble on the first climb of Snake but was able to avoid it the rest of the ride.

Brush Mountain Breakdown course
Shwacked down the now closed section of Skullcap to stick to last year's course.

Pushed hard early and settled in/down midcourse as I could feel the Lactic Acid starting to build in my legs.

Road and parking lot were packed. Wasn't until I got to Beast that I started seeing everyone on the trails. Think it was the first day of fun season.

Legs were sluggish. Didn't push the pace at all.

60F in the valley, 70F in the sun. It was hot enough that the dogs kept trying to drink all the sitting water on the road between Beauty and Beast.

Windy. Did the loop in reverse. Partially because I thought it would be best given the windy conditions. I think reverse has some steeper hills.

Straley Valley
Ran the FS Road. Not a usual run but a nice change. The pace was super consistent. And I was able to run longer into the dark than if I was on the pavement without concern.
