They look good to me! I haven't tried doing intervals, but I doubt I'd get anywhere close to your consistency. We do have a small track at the gym and I was going to ask them how long it was, but there didn't seem any point as I can't see myself running on it. It's a nice wood, banked track but it encircles the weight machine area and if you run on it or even walk briskly, it's noisy. I imagine if I tried to run around it for 20 or 30 minutes, people on the machines would get up and start throwing the free weights at me. :-)

You may be right. :-) It's too bad; you'd think they'd want folks to use it without distracting others (have you suggested they do something about it?). Perhaps a layer of rubberized something on top might help...

The track I run on is on the second floor, overlooking the basketball courts on the first floor. There are 3 lanes; the innermost lane is supposedly for walkers, the middle for "joggers," and the outer for runners. When I've been there a few others have been there too but usually no other runners, so I use the outside lane, meaning fewer laps = a mile. Sometimes it's hard to keep track of which lap I'm on, since I do two rounds for the 230m (not quite quarter mile).

The curves aren't banked, and the floor is padded (rubberized?), which is really nice on the knees/feet. And it's not noisy at all. And it's relatively cool there; I wore running shorts and a scooped front singlet and didn't really start to sweat until about the 3rd interval--nice.

And here I was picturing you doing your intervals in the Great Outdoors.

Okay, guess that wasn't reasonable.

Once the weather warms up again, I will. I can only take so much cold, and the last time I did them outdoors (when it was mid-40's) was borderline too cold for me. Sorry, I'm a weather wimp. Now, if I lived in MD or VA... :-)

One reason I joined the Y was to avoid excuses-for-not-exercising based on the weather.

I don't think they'd bother spending money to fix this little track since I doubt anyone would run on it. I don't think I'd last long on it either. It's too small and I'd feel dizzy running around and around. :-) Your track sounds a lot more attractive!

Hope you didn't hurt your knee, Janet. The ice caught a lot of people today I think.

Yes, in Maryland today it was 30 degrees and everything was covered with a few inches of snow and/or ice. Delightful interval weather.
I am becoming more and more of a weather wimp. In my teens & 20s I'd run outside in shorts until it got down to freezing. Not now.
Take care of the knee! Isn't it typical that we always seem to hurt the already-injured or the almost-recovered body part?

I used to know teens who would be outside in shorts and t-shirts :-) It was never me, though.

I did a silly and just tripped going up the step (didn't life the foot high enough, tripped, and landed on the opposite knee); they do a good job of clearing the ice and snow around our little P.O. (for our little hamlet). We have leftover ice from Monday's freezing rain, with scattered flurries from the past few days. It finally reached 30 and was sunny today, but that's about it.

I haven't iced my knee, but I suppose I should. I think I'll do that tomorrow (since it's bedtime now). It's not swollen, but it certainly wouldn't hurt to ice it. And keep weight off it!
