Sun Lakes Rogaine with Kid #1: Route: 85, 31, 102, 44, 67, 54, 81, 66, 69, 55, 82, 56, 101W, 47, 68, 48, 103, 65, 86, 84W, 49, 64, 107, 35, 88W, 34, Finish.

Last year we did the southern plateau, so this year we decided to visit a different part of the map and clear the northern portion. Again we optimistically planned an optional short 1-5 control loop up the southern climb depending on how much time we had. We started in a little drizzle of rain and had an uphill run/walk along the highway into the wind for a bit. After that the rain went away and wind was not too much of a problem. We cruised through the upper bit with a bit of time lost on 69, 55, and 68. I think the longest was about 15min lost on 55. We hit 101W at slightly before the 4hr mark and took a break for snacks/lunch. I think if we were about 3-4 controls further at halfway mark then we would have been set nicely for the southern loop. We descended the canyon and made our way to 65 where we had the go/no-go decision to make with about 2hr20m to go. We decided to try and do a quick trip up to grab 86 and come back down and hurry through the lower loop. In hindsight, this cost us 170pts as we ran out of time to sweep the lower controls. After 86 we ran most of the remainder of the course and really wanted to grab 107. When we punched 107 we had about 35min remaining so I knew we needed to hustle to get back. We ran really hard through the campground and finished 45sec overtime with a 20pt penalty. Overall good solid effort but we really should have skipped 86.
