All things considered, I have to consider this a success.
Sure, I wasted several minutes with too much hubris thinking I could out terrain read impenetrable vegetation and subtle topography by 73, but once that was out of the way, I moved well given current levels. I even thought I might be in a bit when I kept encountering Tom, although I would later learn that after one of our splits he picked up two I was saving for the end.
So 73, sucked. Was fortunate to get the next dark green. Hard to get to land bridge in the marsh, but made it around, then a bit undulating so not super fast.
I used the Waldo method of time accounting, planning for a clear but expecting to have to bail. So imagine my surprise when I wasn't grossly behind the hour at 12c, so I decided I would go for it and die trying.
Lightly botched 52, but not game ending.
Game ending? Not getting a recorded punch for 47. I think I punched it. I queried the box, no 981698. Not sure if I didn't dip long enough, or if I zoned out while contemplating water. I was with Mike here.
Mixed it up with Mike and Tom for a bit.
I got slightly ahead of schedule, but had left too much hill (72, 58) near the end, and ran out of oomph. I only redlined twice, and both were with 72/58, which was ill timed so I was slightly late and had to skip 37 near the s/f but too far for me. Had I not botched 73, I think I could have cleared.

Three flag pickup with Richard, who aspires to, among other things, Caberfae and eventually the Barclay. He is super fit and seems to be picking up the nav, so he'll be a force in no time.

A hurried quest for all nice, all the time for the Yankee score o.
We came pretty close, mostly nice, most of the time. Every circle in on a white part of the map, with good visibility. You could *almost* do the course in shorts, save for a few brambles you have to get through. If you choose our routes!
We could have finished early if we didn't have to add a portion of the NCT that was not on the map!
Also, the wonky water levels confused me and I ended up on an island inadvertently.

Hard to even consider a PR when you can't leave your building grounds for a couple minutes for traffic! Not that I was going for one anyway with the big weekend ahead between scouting and Haven.
I wonder if anyone has ever run the various little rapids sections of the Middle Rouge.
* Sydney pointed out I clomp pretty heavily going up hills, so I focused on being light-footed * You can do hill intervals and be less likely to hurt a wimpy shin cause of angles and stuff * Hills seem to give me the most grief in the woods
Elevation is not correct - it's slightly more than (12/7) meters tall.
It is nice to see I haven't entirely lost speed (final rep <7:00).
Intentionally didn't do innumerable ones because it seems like it should be something to work up, especially since it's just on the way home.
Not sure why Fenix doesn't detect either of the HRM straps, even though at least one has a new battery. Operator error, other issue? Who knows!

My hope is I can take a company car tonight for evaluation (it's scheduled, someone needs cars driven, but it was canceled last week, so we'll see), since knee was very slightly tweaky after Friday's "haven't ridden in a while, let's do 30 miles medium". But if not I'll just go easy on the way back.
If I get the car, I'll then bike home Friday when I return it.
Lights were favorable, just must not have had quite enough oomph this am. Slight headwind.
