Knee likes to make itself known on descents at the mo so a little switcheroo from the Seat to BnB. Joined the boys and did a standard loop of Braids and Mortonhall. Some sleety rain and wind threatened to make it grim but held off. Decked it pretty hard on some ice and felt the turkey from flat Christmas meal so a mixed bag.

Down to parkrun with a sizeable group of euoc and haries. Took the tactic of eating standard podge and coffee on the basis that I’d need the loo on the way down to, rather than during, the parkrun. Tactic a great success.
Enjoyed the way down, some top notch views of snowy Ochils as the sun came up, and fun to head down with a big group.

Icy and hence sloppy but it was more about getting a session out of it and to do something different so wasn’t too fussed. Felt comfortable all the way, just lacking that extra bite atm. Bit frustrating to be the best part of a minute down on the spring fitness but can only put the work in to get back and pass that next semester. Been very frustrating these last few months but looking forward to some solid training post exams.
Hands got cold.

Good little bunch out tonight and conditions could were pretty decent for the Killing Fields. Not running as well as previous weeks but good to grind it out. Legs felt sluggish from not running the past few days (rest does nothing but make them feel bad) and form felt quite poor.

WU. Course looked fun and hard (surface) which suited me fine as spikes aren't something I currently own. Although will probably invest in time for Hants XC champs.

East District XC - Livingston.
Have been looking forward to this for a while as a good marker of how the fitness is coming back. Obviously hoped to see an improvement since Braids. Been a bit of a strange week training wise but felt good on the WU and it was a nice day with a lot of people out racing / supporting so stood on the startline with not an ounce of dread.
Started quite hard but it felt reasonably comfortable. Was surprised to be close to people I'm never close to but stuck with it. I don't run these races with an aim of position so was happy to go with it - best that can happen is I surprise myself and get an ok result; worst is that I die heavily and get an even shiter result than normal.
Took a while for people to start passing but eventually they did. To begin with they came past slowly, I hung on for a bit and then they went but towards the end it was more a case of the insta drop. Had been relatively close to Ali for the first two laps and then faded badly so the gap grew quite a lot but still better than Braids I think so I'll take it.
Enjoyed it and judging by the rapid onslaught of a stomach ache, must have worked hard enough too.

EUOC long run, although it got decimated rather quickly. Wasn’t sure how this was going to go after last night but felt fine so did as planned. Quite possibly the windiest I’ve seen on the Seat but got used to it after a while. Very dark for the last 45mins or so, resulting in the slowest descent of the crags known to man.

Felt bonky as anything during drills but thought may as well start and see. Done enough sessions where the start felt terrible but quickly that feeling gets replaced by some surprisingly good running. Didn't seem to be happening so bailed halfway through the first. Just felt a bit weird, legs didn't seem too tired anything, just a strange feeling really. Hopped back in for the next three and seemed fine, but then on the fourth just stopped - again not feeling overly dead but running with Ali was feeling harder than previous weeks. Don't really see the point in running half heartedly so would rather stop and call it a day than plough on.

Not too fussed - been doing three sessions a week each week and everythings been better than expected so far, so one less than perfect session isn't an issue. Sometimes just roughly following the structure of the group sessions is a little too rigid and it would be worth being more flexible.

Couple of hours pre-brekkie on the Seat. Took an hour to get out of bed and didn't feel much more awake once up. Just plodding away very slowly, working my way around the climbs. Never quite got into it and bailed earlier than planned. Still, a solid enough end to a solid enough week. Haven't run this far off an empty stomach for a while so good to see it's still doable.

Down the bog to FK and then purko's. Had purposefully tried to avoid the other group so as not to hear the "I'm so glad our session is done" kind of chat, which is exactly what I got when we bumped into each other. Although Jack saying he predicted I'd only do one rep was a nice way of making sure I didn't drop.

Running hills 38:46 intensity: (13:46 @1) + (25:00 @4) 5.33 km (7:17 / km) +540m 4:50 / km

5 x Purko's. Feeling very average, first one seemed chill but got slower on each one (4.20-4.30). Each one was basically get to the end of the steep bit, feel shite for the next half a minute or so and then recover and feel a bit stronger.

Thought it would take longer so next time will add in Seat direct.
