Course setter for upcoming event said trails had changed. So I went out and did some trail mapping. There was one trail change but rest seemed fine. unfortunately the thorny bushes have continued to grow and have gotten bad along some of the trails. They didn't look bad farther off the trail.
There is new construction in the southern most part by the water filtration plant/job corp. Also parking has changed at the woodstock inn.

Orienteering (Happyland red) 1:47:27 [3] *** 7.8 mi (13:47 / mi) +310m 12:16 / mi
ahr:121 max:149 spiked:13/17c slept:7.0 shoes: VJ Falcons 2021

I was very tired from yesterday/last night. It was nice to be able to see the vegetation today so you could tell the better way to get through it than just plowing through.
I was slow to #1 while I got loosened up and tried to get a feel for the map in daylight.
On # 3 I was off by a bit and didn't see the control and had to make a big loop to come back to it. This is when I noticed that all the control boxes were always facing away from the approach direction which was very annoying. After this control I started losing the urge to hurry. I was tired and it was green/slow.
On the way to #5 I was going to stay lower along the stream but I kept being forced higher because of the green then I started heading to 9 without thinking about it. Fortunately I saw someone on the way from 9-10 which keyed me in I was going to the wrong control so I corrected.
#6 did not go well. I would swear my compass wasn't point north in this area. I kept trying to line up the map and it wasn't working. My compass kept point me off to the right from what the contours were saying. I kept going then was having major difficulty telling what was up from down. I found a saddle (and an umapped ditch which didn't help) I wandered around for awhile then decided to bail out to the trail. I had troubled finding the road which wasn't a good thing. cut in from the trail reading just the contours and not the compass and still almost missed the control again. By this time I was very tired and not in a hurry anymore. Climbing over the green had taken it toll and I didn't want to get any leg cramps.

I enjoyed the 12/13 area which I had previously mapped. I was able to use the root stocks as attack points.
15: I opted to take the road around rather than the trails which I had done the night before. When I left the road I encountered a lot of green and got hung up.

overall I was just slow. No energy for the last few controls.
3 PM

Orienteering (control pickup) 56:26 [1] *** 2.34 mi (24:07 / mi)
ahr:106 max:136 spiked:6/6c shoes: ultraboost DNA 2021

I finished by course at 2:50. Just in time to rest for 10 minutes before going to control pickup. I had to drive to PWF to get to my area. an 8 mile drive. I was very tired so was slow on control pickup (even when on the road). I lost some time because one control was mishung. I was in the correct ditch which was covered with fallen trees but I had to make sure it wasn't hidden in there. I checked out the next ditch over and there was the control.
