I was planning to make a good run today. Instead, when I went to put on my shoes at the meet site I realized I had not brought them. I had to do my course in my walking shoes. These shoes, were not meant for running and have no traction whatsoever which is really tough on all the steep hillsides covered with leaves. Instead of a hard run I did a careful run. It is amazing how much mental and physical energy it takes when you have to be very careful for every step. I only fell once but there were numerous times where I was sliding/skiing. In many cases it was like jogging in the sand, as one foot would slide back on the leaves as you push off.
I was slow but steady. I walked a lot of the up hills, partly because I was tired, and partly because of the footing. The orienteering was fairly straight forward and not much route choices so I clean. Controls were also hung high so you could see them from a long ways off.
