Running warm up/down 10:30 [3]

Up

Orienteering 24:40 [3] *** 3.2 km (7:42 / km)

Control pick sprint course in Edinburgh. I wanted to make sure I had flow and read ahead for each of my controls, and for the most part I was successful, but I wasn't running too fast and there were still a few times where I had trouble reading ahead or making a good route choice. Definitely used my magnifier a few times.

Up (walked up some steep hills)

Orienteering race 1:01:20 [3] *** 7.1 km (8:38 / km)

I just wanted to run a clean race today to make sure I would be back in time to leave for the airport. Turns out this worked really well because the woods were pretty fast, and even though I lost time in a couple areas I still finished in 52. I think that put me in 43 for H21K in the entire competition, which I'm fairly pleased with, especially since I only really raced the middle yesterday.

Note

Sorry I haven't been logging this past week. Almost no WiFi. I'll try to update everything tomorrow night if I can.

Finally got to really race for the first time this summer. It felt so good to let loose in the woods and really attack the course. Taking the previous days slowly probably helped me to focus in on my technique, and I made no major mistakes, although there were a few areas where I got a little off to the right or left. It wasn't a perfect race, but I'm very satisfied and I'm glad I finally got to compare myself with the other runners in my category.

Orienteering race 1:12:32 [3] *** 7.28 km (9:58 / km)

Erin told me to take today easy, so I did. I ran slowly, even when I felt like I could run fast, and I actually had some trouble later on in the course because I started to get bored. I needed some more speed in order to increase the excitement, but the purpose of today was to run easy, and I stuck to that.

Orienteering race 16:20 [3] *** 3.0 km (5:27 / km)

Not super happy. My race was fairly clean, only a couple places where I got a little mixed up, but everyone else is just so much faster than I am. Great sprint practice, though. Excellent course, lots of spectators, and tons of cheering.

Orienteering race 1:07:35 [3] *** 7.49 km (9:01 / km)

Less marshy than yesterday. Really struggled in the beginning too. Messed up number 1 and 2, then got off to a bad start on number 3, but after that I started to pull it together and the rest of the course went fairly smoothly, and I was able to pick up the pace a little bit at times.

Running warm up/down 13:15 [3]

Up

Orienteering race 1:11:37 [3] *** 7.6 km (9:25 / km)

Started out fairly cautiously because I wanted to get into the terrain, but the beginning of the course was also fairly tricky. Very wet and marshy, and sunk past my thighs at one point, but at other points I was able to pick up the pace a little. Never going all out, but not super slow either.
