A long outing east across various deserts and into the mountains, lots of interesting stuff. totally enjoyable. Back about 6, so got to run at dusk. Certainly more pleasant, and still time for a swim.

Note

Now in the Southwest, edge of the Namib Desert. Highlight of the day was two Horned Adders. :-) Pictures at some point. Nothing like a close look at a snake, or two, spotted at dusk, to cap off an already fine day.

8 AM

run/hike 17:37 intensity: (52 @1) + (3:00 @2) + (12:33 @3) + (1:12 @4) 1.59 mi (11:06 / mi) +49ft 10:47 / mi
ahr:136 max:153

Hot, but had a few minutes in the pool to look forward to. :-)

Note

Two more flights in small planes, way south. Another local guide, Alfred, seems on the old side, speaks 8 languages, 53 kg, brilliant.

Note

Hoanib Camp, in the northwest, not too far from the coast --

Lilac-breasted Roller --

Black-faced impala --

Same as yesterday, and that goes for the short swim afterwards. Still no snake sightings but have seen a lot of lizards. None, so far, in our beds or our shoes.

ahr:140 max:157

Another mid-afternoon outing (ie. hot and sunny), because that's the only time possible. In the vicinity of Etosha National Park. No snake sightings, but that are said to be around, including zebra cobras. Hmmmm.

Tuesday Apr 25, 2023 #

Note

A couple more flights in a small plane, the second rather bumpy, and so a new part of Namibia. Still very dry, but quite different.

Sand, mostly hard-packed, a little bit not. Carried a walkie-talkie in case something dangerous showed up. (What would I have done? Throw it at the lion?) Hot but very dry. Followed by a swim!
