Orienteering 1:10:30 [3] **** 4.87 km (14:29 / km) +135m 12:43 / km
spiked:10/12c shoes: KanadiaTR adidas

Hickory Run, Green, 2nd out of 26.

I felt fast in this race, and 2nd isn't a bad spot to be, but I think I could have gotten better than 16 minutes behind John Campbell. He had a time of 54:02. I think I could have done 6 minutes faster with just a little more focus. Yet, the DVOA ranking system says this is my best race so far this year. I think the course setting at French Creek is really improving my orienteering.

Practice Orienteering 1:00:00 [3] **** 3.7 km (16:13 / km)
shoes: KanadiaTR adidas

Training with j-man's contour only loops. I did pretty well. I did a few without looking at my compass. On one loop I get lost for about 20 minutes before going back the start finish area. I didn't add getting lost into the distance number.

Practice Orienteering 30:00 [2] ***** 1.11 km (27:02 / km)
shoes: KanadiaTR adidas

More training at Hickory Run. This time it's the pace and compass only. There were a whole bunch of controls everywhere and all they gave you was the distance and direction to the next control. I think I only got half of them correctly. I felt bad at this.

Orienteering Sprint 29:03 [4] *** 2.9 km (10:01 / km) +85m 8:44 / km
spiked:15/17c shoes: KanadiaTR adidas

Old sprint race from some important event I have forgotten by now. I think it was the sprint champs two years ago held here at Hickory Run. As for how I did, navigationally I was very happy. Physically wasn't so good. About 2/3 into the course I started to feel sick, I remember wanting to throw up at one point. I tried to jog but I couldn't, so I walked about 5 controls. I lost 4 to 5 minutes as a result. Oddly, I felt better at the last control and got to run to finish.

Hickory Run, Night-O, Advanced, 16th of 25.

I had a ok race, better than last year for sure. I really felt like the contour training helped a lot this night. I don't think there was one time where I had no clue where I was, well, maybe once. On the 6th control I meant to stay on the high ground, but somehow ended up in knee high swamp. It was then I regretted wearing jeans to protect my legs and keep warm. The other big mess up of the night was when I wanted to race this one guy to the finish. We had both run together for the last few controls and were neck and neck at the 9th control. We ran into finish and downloaded (I won the race) when we saw that we forgot the 10th control. The 10th control was well hidden with the control circle disguised as a contour on one side, a fence on another, and underneath a building on the last. Wyatt almost made the same mistake. So me and the guy went back out and got the last control. I still beat him to finish, but another 2 minute mistake.
