Mountain biking 23:47 [1] 1.99 mi (11:57 / mi)

Jubilee loop in Northboro, first time. Pretty rocky, so it was in fits and starts

Road running 18:45 [1] 2.0 mi (9:22 / mi)

Out and back from home. Garmin reported 300+ feet of Up and about the same Down. Complete BS, since it's about 2 contour lines on a USGS map enclosing the entire route.

Note

Counted contour lines on the run route and on the bike route. I got about 41 contour lines (@ 5m per contour) on the run route. (Part of it is off the SE corner of the map, maybe a handful of lines.) I got 70 lines on the bike route. Will have to reconcile these with data from the Garmin.

Also, replaced the HR transmitter battery in the Garmin, which was dead. This should not have had any effect on the receiver's ability to make sense of elevation data.

Long road run around the base of Mt. Wachusett. Started from the ski lodge, counterclockwise. I thought that would save the horrendous climb from the base of the lodge, but there's a fair amount of climb on the north side also.

Mountain biking 55:48 [2] 6.1 mi (9:09 / mi) +500m 7:17 / mi

Spooky how a circuit on the roads at the base of Mt. Wachusett has as much climb as a MTB ride to the top and down. I would not have guessed that. 48 minutes from the ski lodge to the summit, 3.5M, pretty feeble on shot quads. Then a rest, enjoying the best views in Worcester County with a side order of chilly winds. Followed by a ride down to the lodge, obeying the posted sign "Bicycles 20mph" on the Down Road. 2.61M in under 8 minutes, max speed 37.4mph (must have been on Mountain Rd heading into Westminster).

Anybody want to guess the man-made oddity I saw on the ski slope?

Road running 31:46 [1] 3.1 mi (10:15 / mi)

From work around the top of the Campus Park loop (Hologic) and back down. I saw a single wild turkey on the other side of a wooden guard rail, not even 10 feet away. I wonder if this was the same bird flummoxed by the nearby chainlink fence a few months ago.

Road running 26:45 [2] 3.0 mi (8:55 / mi)

Rail-trail out-and-back, late afternoon, brisk pace. I probably have not run this fast in a while. Breathing never got faster than 2-3, so where does this feeling of fatigue come from?

Orienteering race 1:03:23 [1] 4.1 mi (15:28 / mi) +250m 13:00 / mi

Mt. Tom Green. Mostly walking

Walking 55:00 [1] 3.0 mi (18:20 / mi)

To and from a graduation party for a friend.

Out and back from work. Such a pleasure to run outside once the street sweepers have removed all the sand, grit, lottery cards, and other gunk from the sides of the streets.

Cycling 1:12:00 [2] 15.3 mi (4:42 / mi) +375m 4:22 / mi

I heard somewhere that this is National Bike to Work week. So I managed to arrange my work schedule to get dropped off at work with a bike and no car.

The route home is a bit hilly.

Orienteering race 1:12:30 [2] 3.77 mi (19:14 / mi) +520m 13:28 / mi

Mashamoquet Green, mostly walking/light jogging. Somehow I had the fastest split on the penultimate, downhill leg on Green.

Mountain biking 36:30 [1] 2.8 mi (13:02 / mi) +230m 10:23 / mi
ahr:143 max:165

A tiny bit of MTBing at Mashamoquet, not sure how friendly the trails would be. I rode/hike-a-biked to the Mashamoquet campground, then up one of the major N-S trails to the gravel road, west, stopped for a drink at the water control in the pit, then came south on another N-S trail. I was unsure whether the seriously steep section downhill from the O start triangle to the O finish would be rideable, but I was able to keep the rubber side down by putting major weight behind the seat and feathering the brakes. I found the trails not very much fun for my tired legs, with the rocks and roots and relentless slopes.

Mass Central Rail trail out-and-back with J. Lots of folks out on the trail today. Footing was more uneven than I remember; maybe that's the result of the horrid winter we had. Water flowing in the culverts alongside, very pleasant.
