map walk 2:44:58 [1] 6.05 km (27:16 / km)

Started field checking on a little map of a camp that I started over the winter. I hope to at least have a central area of it ready for a program in August.

I'm amazed at what I have been able to create, but also sometimes feel like I'm in a bit over my head. This place has a lot of complex swamp/stream areas and I'm a little at a loss on how to map them accurately. (And other things that weren't able to be placed based on the lidar and aerial photos)

map walk 30:44 [1] 1.79 km (17:10 / km)

A little bit more after lunch, but I started running out of steam and decided I had enough to draft.

This was about half ok and half horrible. I blew the first control, apparently walking within feet of it according to my Garmin track, but the area did not look right to me at all and I went partway back down the hill and attacked again. Then I blew the second control, hitting the right reentrant but too high and then going higher (off the map!) into a really rocky area. When I finally found it I swear the "boulder" was about 3 inches tall. I was pretty uncertain on the way to 3, ended up above it but luckily looked down at the right time.

The control itself was fine on 4 but I went through a lot of rocky crap on the way there and my right leg went way down into a hole at one point. I was to the point of pretty much crying for the rest of the leg and wondering if I should just give up, especially when I saw a nice bench between 4 and 5. But the flattish area here was a bit refreshing and I saw a bunch of people and somehow kept on going. And then 5 and 6 were okay and in super nice woods.

7 was the same control as 3, approached from a different direction, and I still got pulled left (at least I realized which direction). The rest of it was mostly ok except a bobble on 11 when I saw a control above me and started going that way before realizing it was way too high andddd... it was 9 where I'd already been. Also 12 was down the reentrant way more than mapped, but this was in sight of the finish so I just kept going down.

Bleh, at least it was a nice day and not super hot.
