Cockies Sunday run from Hackett. The day started off ok. We picked Heffer up from Belconnen and then going up the hill near UC I noticed the battery light was glowing red, and red = bad. The car started dying and I managed to limp it back to Belconnen and park in front of Heffer's apartment. MaryMac fell on her sword and waited for the NRMA. Heffer grabbed Harry's car and we drove across to Hackett, but got there about 10 minutes late. We had rung Liz to say we were coming so she was there with Phoebe but everyone else had gone.
Heffer and Phoebe headed off towards Ainslie, and Liz and I set off up Majura to try and catch the others. We had made it to almost the top of the last steep pinch near the top of Majura when the mob caught us on their way down. Liz kept going over and down to the pines, but I ran to the top of the steep bit, then turned around and caught up with everyone: Hoggster, Geoff, Fatrat, Mace, ALJ, JLA, Belinda, Kathy, Fel. Down Majura and along the GMFT to the reservoirs where we picked up Dreaded. I ran with Hoggster over Hackett Hill and was keeping up until he asked me a question and I tried to answer - I can't run up hills and talk at the same time. We kept going up Ainslie with Geoff and Fatrat catching up. The three of them pulled away near the saddle and they took the triple tri path. I ran up along the road to try and catch up but they are too fast and got to the top just before me. The boys kept on going and I kept jogging around while waiting for the girls who weren't far behind. Down the concrete path with ALJ, JLA and Belinda (who is really improving - amazing what a couple of months of consistent training can do), then ran with ALJ all the way back. The pace started picking up with both of us doing the "I wasn't surging, I was just trying to keep up with you" routine. It was hard but I felt really strong today - must be the lovely cool weather. Eon and Bun were there at the end after getting there late and doing their own thing.
Breakfast at Wilburs - joined by Nick, Hillary, Jose, Jules, Acejase, Abby, Zoe, Rob, Max, Mira, Shep, Roy, and MaryMac with the newly installed alternator thanks to the NRMA. Breakfast was great until the "Caramel Milkshake" fracas/debacle/dispute at the very end, which was a bit unpleasant - and so trivial it is almost funny. I think some people loose perspective after "working in the hospitality industry for 20 years"! I had muesli but then Hillary ordered the museli stack which is a moulded stack of museli covered in yoghurt and berries and fruits and made mine look a bit sad in comparison. My milkshake was good.
