Strength 38:00 [3]

Standard fitness room workout.
11 AM

Running 34:13 [4] 4.03 mi (8:29 / mi) +5ft 8:29 / mi
shoes: Hoka Conquest

I had an appt with my insurance agent in Fairport (a good appt, he determined by switching homeowners, umbrella, and auto insurance to a different carrier, I could save about $1000 a year). I hadn't run on the canal in quite a while so I decided to do a run while I was there, from the village east.

First mile was moderate effort, then I decided to try to do 3 miles at a fairly fast (for me) pace. I was pleasantly surprised that I was able to maintain well under a 9 minute/mile pace.
2 PM

Tennis 15:00 [2]

Hitting with Mike S. before pickleball. I felt much less competent hitting with him than with Carole last week (because Carole went out of her way to be nice to me, while it didn't seem like Mike did :) ).

Pickleball 1:24:44 [2] 1.5 mi (56:29 / mi) +7ft 56:15 / mi

Outdoors, at Webster Park.
8 PM

Walking (Dog walk) 40:00 [3] 2.0 mi (20:00 / mi)
shoes: Asics Gel Contend 2 April 2015

Evening dog walk. Temperature was surprisingly coolish -- I was OK, barely, in shorts and a tee shirt, but might have preferred to have long sleeves on. Nothing really annoying, just that I should have checked the temperature before I set out.

Walking (Dog walk) 56:51 [1] 3.01 mi (18:53 / mi) +17ft 18:47 / mi
shoes: Asics Gel Contend 2 April 2015

Around the big block, and back into Finn Park with a stop at the creek.
3 PM

Course setting 55:09 [1] 2.61 mi (21:09 / mi) +69ft 20:38 / mi
shoes: Salomon hiking boots

Setting out the western controls (9-15) for the Webster Trail Challenge.

Course setting 19:35 [1] 0.82 mi (23:49 / mi) +48ft 22:35 / mi
shoes: Salomon hiking boots

Last three controls to set out -- 7, 8, and 16.

Walking (Dog walk) 48:00 [1] 2.4 mi (20:00 / mi) +16ft 19:53 / mi
shoes: Saucony Excursion TR8 2015

Around the big block and then up into Finn Park a bit. GPS was balky on getting the signal, so I didn't wait for it, and then forgot to start it until well after it had finally locked in. So only the partial route is recorded. Rest of distance and time estimated.

Running ("Long") 49:20 [3] 5.34 mi (9:15 / mi) +175ft 8:58 / mi
shoes: Hoka Conquest

Did some painting on the rental house's front porch steps, then went for a run, starting on Park Ave., and working my way downtown, then up to High Falls and across the Pont de Rennes pedestrian bridge.
7 PM

Pickleball 1:10:00 [3]

Pretty bad night on the courts. I went 0-4 game-wise and played pretty badly for the most part. Three out of the 4 games had Mike S. on the opposite team, so that is a partial explanation for the losses, but not for my overall sub-standard level of play.
8 PM

Walking (Dog walk) 42:51 [1] 2.12 mi (20:14 / mi) +1ft 20:14 / mi
shoes: Saucony Excursion TR8 2015

Barely enough daylight to finish up around 9:30 and not quite need to turn the flashlight on. A few mosquitoes on the Rt 104 path, which I think is the first time this season they've made their presence felt in non-wooded areas.

Strength 5:00 [3]

Very short fitness room workout after pickleball, focusing exclusively on wrist and arm strengthening exercises.

Walking (Dog walk) 38:20 [1] 2.07 mi (18:31 / mi) +5ft 18:29 / mi
shoes: Saucony Excursion TR8 2015

Morning walk, before church, to avoid doing a significant walk in the expected rain later.
2 PM

Walking (Dog walk) 42:00 [1] 2.1 mi (20:00 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Excursion TR8 2015

Actually, two walks, approx a mile each. One early afternoon before we went over to someone's lake house for a get-together, the other at 9 pm for the dog's late-evening stroll.

Tennis 15:00 [2]

I decided to give tennis another try to see if my wrist was ready for it. I last tried in early April -- it didn't go well then. I just tried (in April) hitting against the backboard for about 5 minutes. Forehands weren't too bad; backhands were pretty painful, and serves were even more so. I had an appt with my surgeon a few days after that attempt, and he said I shouldn't even try tennis for another 2-3 months. Since it's been about 2.5 months since then, I figured it might be time to try.

I went to the Webster Park pickleball/tennis counts, where Cheryl and many others were playing pickleball. Carole Roth, a very good pickleball and tennis player, was sitting out, so I asked if she would hit some tennis balls with me. I was quite pleasantly surprised when things went way better than in April. We played for probably 15 minutes, and I had minimal discomfort, and was actually playing pretty well. It helped that Carole gave me generally consistent and easy to hit shots. But anyway, a sign of progress in the wrist recovery.

Walking 20:00 [1] 1.0 mi (20:00 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Excursion TR8 2015

After tennis, I checked out one more trail for the trail challenge. This one wasn't essential; using it would allow the 8K to be about 0.3 km longer, and closer to a true 8K (but still slightly short). This trail checked out OK -- it wasn't overgrown or even muddy.

Strength 42:00 [3]

Fitness room workout at the Rec Center.
9 AM

Walking 1:05:06 [1] 3.46 mi (18:50 / mi) +189ft 17:55 / mi
shoes: Salomon hiking boots

More checking out of trail challenge course options. More issues found, with my Plan C. So on to Plan D ... Some very overgrown, and in one case, essentially impassable (due to vegetation intrusion), trails found, that I'd really like to avoid for the trail challenge.
11 AM

Walking (Dog walk) 39:23 [1] 2.06 mi (19:05 / mi) +5ft 19:03 / mi
shoes: Saucony Excursion TR8 2015

3 PM

Running 29:38 [3] 3.26 mi (9:05 / mi) +127ft 8:46 / mi
shoes: Hoka Conquest

Mainly on roads. Couple of hills, to get ready (sort of) for the July 4 race. With trailsnail.
9 PM

Walking (Dog walk) 30:00 [1] 1.5 mi (20:00 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Excursion TR8 2015

Late-evening dog walk, to the Rt 104 path, about a quarter mile on the path, and then back.
