US Masters champs, Day 2, Hueston Woods East, OCIN

Ready to try to be steady and consistent for another day. It was weird going out in first place but I did a good job of forgetting about the time and concentrating on being clean.

Right away I had some minor issues, when I got within 10m of C1 and couldn't see the marker. Thought it was on the bridge, instead of a reentrant. Doh! This happened again on C5, when I thought the marker would be in the deeper part of the reentrant, and I walked right past the marker.

Most of the course was straight forward and I did OK with the navigation, a few minor bobbles with quick corrections. I just couldn't push the pace as fast as Saturday and I was slowing down as the race progressed. I need to increase fitness to be able to handle two races in a row.

Had a hard time deciding on the route from 10-11. Considered going back through the start, but glad I didn't. For the finish: I had scoped out the finish chute before I started, and decided to give it my all. It was nice to get some cheers from my friends as I sprinted to the finish.

I had a late start, so I was able to compare times with others as soon as I finished and figure out that I had held onto the win. Gold in F60 was an incredible surprise! I had trained to be able to have two clean races, so I was really pleased with that result. I had no expectation of a medal.

Nice job by OCIN, as usual. Enjoyed the finish location and being able to hang out and chat with everyone. Boris and Inara joined us in our Airbnb. Went for lunch with Peggy, Nadim and Samantha. Then good Mexican food delivered in fir dinner. Relaxing and getting ready for eclipse day tomorrow.
