Note
(rest day)

Lots of walking about Sefton park spectating the cross country. Really disappointed to miss out as it seemed like a great race and was fun spectating but definitely think it was the right move as could feel the quad throughout the day. Was never particularly painful or uncomfortable but just always noticeable and probably slightly limping at points. Will try to keep the walking at a minimum especially on hard surfaces just to protect it as much as possible so it’s good todays walking was mostly on grass.

Running 5:46 intensity: (16 @1) + (5:30 @2) 1.11 km (5:13 / km)
ahr:135 max:143 (injured) shoes: Saucony Endorphin Speed 3

Not good. Immediate noticeable pain in my upper left thigh / groin area. Pain always around a 4-6 and never eased. Was also affecting my gait to the point where I felt like I was running with a slight limp. Any soreness I thought I had in my quads has gone and it’s just replaced by this pain. Tomorrow is almost definitely a no go now. Really disappointing but it’s not an important race in the grand scheme of things and would be a really bad idea to run a hard race on this before a getting physios opinion. Don’t think the volume has been too much recently either as I’ve definitely done volumes like this before I think I was just training poorly. Definitely too much volume on hard surfaces compared to normally, no S&C and my sleep has been poor as well. Just generally not doing the things I need to do to recover properly and prevent injuries. Then just being stupid by not listening to my body and continuing to aggravate my quads when they clearly weren’t in a good way. Will try and get a physios opinion as soon as I can and then see how I can proceed. Worst fear is a stress fracture but in reality I haven’t got much clue what it is so probably best not to cross train in the meantime in case that makes it worse. Really frustrating but I’ve brought it on myself tbf.

(rest day)

Giving the quads some more rest in the hope they’re recovered in time for the xc. Did 10mins of isometrics plus some light rolling. Quads feeling slightly better but still sore. Very much confused as apart from the minor pain in my upper left thigh they just feel sore, akin to doms or just general fatigue in the muscles, but it’s clearly a bigger issue than that.

Cross Training 30:06 intensity: (10:42 @1) + (19:07 @2) + (17 @3)
ahr:123 max:159

Realised I was being a bit of a melt with my quads and just thinking they’d sort themselves out so actually tried to help out the recovery today in the hope I can get them sorted in time for Saturday. Did some isometrics and light stretching and rolling before 30mins on the elliptical. Quad wise I could feel then throughout this but not much more than I can usually. Definitely easier on the legs than running and if it is something more serious the elliptical probably isn't going to make it worse. Biggest worry is it’s a stress fracture in my left femur as although I can feel both quads the top of my left one is where it’s most sore. This doesn’t seem quite the case though as it typically doesn’t hurt more when all my weight is on me left leg. Only worry was when rolling my hamstrings the top of my left quad was quite sore when rolling the equivalent part of the hamstring. Will look to get a physios opinion and potentially an appointment. Don’t think it’s as serious as I’m worried it might be but always best to be on the safe side with things like this.

Very easy jog on the bass track with dad. Quads still sore. Can’t really tell if it’s just bad doms or an actual issue I need to be worried about. Probably haven’t been doing enough stretching and rolling these past few days. Plan was to just run easy till liverpool cross so I’ll stick to that and keep an eye on the quads. Starting to get a bit frustrated at the lack of progress though.
