Note
(injured) (sick) (rest day)

Junior parkrun with Em and Will this morning, and then up Shutlingsloe to see the Roaches race.

Bit dizzy, headache, dripping etc. Feel okay for about half an hour immediately after lemsip, though. Hopefully better tomorrow as we have a day in the lakes planned.

Running - Road/Track race (Heaton Parkrun) 18:04 [5] 4.99 km (3:37 / km) +36m 3:29 / km
ahr:146 max:161 (injured) (sick) shoes: Nike Pegasus 37

Given the hill, the toe, and the mucus gushing from my nostrils this morning, I'm pleased with this.
3:28 first km including a bit of a climb was perhaps a bit ambitious, and slowed down after this and even moreso on the 'big' hill, but just managed to stay sub 4 on that km and then 3:25 coming down again brought me back to a respectable time. Looking forward to doing a fast flat course; this one was good in terms of surface and corners, but 48m ascent (Garmin feels more accurate here) is too much for a pb.

6th, just ahead of Paul Rowley who was a bit of a surprise to see, since I think he also lives in Bollington.
1 PM

Orienteering - Urban race (Sheffield Botanical Gdns) 31:58 [5] 6.64 km (4:49 / km) +139m 4:22 / km
ahr:148 max:162 (injured) (sick) shoes: Nike Pegasus 37

Sticking to urban o for toe infection avoidance reasons, and saw this last night and thought it looked good.

The 1:4k scale around the gardens really needed a different scale (I think it might have been mapped at 1:2k since some courses got that, and then scaled) and some of the detail was basically unreadable even when stationary.

Can't blame that for my two mistakes though, although I'm blaming the mapper for the first and the planner for the second;
#4 - tree symbol is on both sides of the uncrossable black line; no separate descs ; went to the wrong side. Tbf I didn't actually think to check, I just thought all the botanical controls would be at the start, and so we wouldn't be leaving the gardens so soon. I'm not sure whether the symbols can actually cross the black lines? I've asked Facebook, which knows all. Also when trying to escape the gardens, got stuck in a bear pit with no exists. Probably lost 2 mins total.
#6 and #7 - unbroken control line exactly obscures gap in wall, so I ran round to 6 and again to 7. More annoyed on 7 as it was a really long way around!

One other issue actually on 17 where the path is mapped so narrowly I thought it was an earthbank. Didn't faff too much there though.

I was 2nd when I downloaded, somehow, but I had a pretty early start so I think that will deteriorate. Good fun though.

Didn't even get out for a walk today; was going to but the weather was a bit grotty. Plus I have a proper cold now which has resulted in my blowing my nose 36 times (ish) in the last hour.

Toe appt -> it's healing nicely apparently. The guy looked at me reprehensibly and said it was okay for me to start running "a bit; from next week". I kept quiet. Another appt in a month.

Running - Road/Track tempo (MaccH A Group) 1:02:10 [4] 13.81 km (4:30 / km) +102m 4:20 / km
ahr:150 max:168 (injured) shoes: Nike Pegasus 37

Only persuaded 2 people to come in my A Group, as a result it was so brisk I could barely keep up with it.
Pushed the pace in the last mile to see what would happen and dropped one of them; the other was fine. I told him if he wants to run faster he needs to form an A+ group.

Orienteering - Urban race (Macclesfield SW NSL) 1:13:39 [5] 15.43 km (4:46 / km) +126m 4:35 / km
ahr:145 max:163 (injured) shoes: Nike Pegasus 37

Thought I did this really well and still only managed second dammit. Potentially would have had time for another 60 and another 40 which I think would have edged the win; 68 would have been worth the deviation and I'd have had time for a last-minute 47 if I hadn't faffed about with 83 (it was higher than head-height which is unusual for a substation, so I assumed it was mapped in slightly the wrong place rather than assuming I had just missed it, which was a bad assumption).

I think that 60 mins was more optimal than 75 on this map. When more or less all the controls are possible in 75 and 90% are possible in 60, 60 gives you a higher score per hour. Couldn't have known that in advance though :)

No pain from my toe although it did start oozing blood rather than see-through stuff. I have a review appt on Friday so we'll see if they think it's good progress or not.
