Road Running race (parkrun) 18:47 [5] 5.0 km (3:45 / km)
slept:6.5 shoes: Adidas Adistar Salvations
Hackney Marshes parkrun. Cool, some mist but quite sunny. Jogged from home but no time to stretch.
The lead pack got off to a very fast start (~3:40/km) which was a bit worrying, especially as they took a while to slow down - I just about hung onto the back of this group. Missed out on a PB by just three seconds, after an absolutely crazy final 300m, which I ran in 60 seconds, overtaking one of the three people that were just ahead of me. Shifting to 1 breath/2 strides instead of 1 in 3 helped give me the extra energy boost to cane this last bit. Finished 8th out of 64.
Had I known I would be so close to my PB though, I probably could have cut out a few more seconds. Importantly, I didn't push hard all the way around, just at the end, so I know I can go a bit faster if I'm well rested and not injured (as I am at the moment) as long as it doesn't get much colder.
As usual for this course, my GPS measured it as 60m too short so realistically the actual 5K time would be something like 19:00.
Splits (990m): 3:41, 3:53, 3:52, 3:56, 3:25.
