Did some navigating in the forest. Had trouble picking the right ridge to come down at the beginning because I forgot to start paying attention at the top. Lucky to have the trail as a backstop.

Found a decent way from the trail down to Poverty Creek. Crossing the creek was the only rough spot. A steep 40 ft drop to the creek.

Navigated between some hilltops and saddles on Gap. No problems until the last one where I wasn't sure if I had crossed a spur without knowing. I didn't miss it but never knew for sure. Hit it a bit further S by accident too.

There was an old doubletrack coming down the drainage I came out on. Thinking I could use it to better match up with a connector trail crossing Poverty Creek.

Tried taking the best new route back up Homeplace. I didn't see a deer trail on the bottom of the spur.

35F. Finished 30 min after sunset.

More terrain scouting in the late evening with Zitch. 5:52 Sunset. Started at 5:40. 35F

Went down the east side of the mountain to Poverty Creek. The hillside was fairly clear but steep and rocky at times. A trail would be feasible but a lot of work and a tough climb. Walked down the creek a bit but hit a large creek crossing and I wasn't interested in crossing in my shorts in freezing temps. Saw some nice rock walls on the opposite cliff.

Ran up Straley Valley looking for a way back up the mountain. No luck. There were lots of rhodos in the creek. Ended up making it up but not until after the private fields.

A lot of deer carcasses along the road. Gross. Had to keep Zitch away.
