Do them O'Ringen style. Have 6 classes at a time come up and stand behind their class name and move swiftly along doling out the prizes. Having next 6 classes waiting in the wings.
Or don't read half a dozen limericks as part of the presentation, hey Hilary :)
Was it only half a dozen?
Read out the numbers of existing competitors for spot prizes rather than making them random when half (or more) of the numbers didn't exist.
Don't wait for people to stand on the dais for photos when clearly they don't want to.
Have the results in the correct order :-)
Simon and I are sorry we had to leave. It took us 4 hours to get back. We spent 30mins to go 10km near Richmond. Was terrible.
Facing an 11 hour trip and no placings, no change to presentations was ever going to lure us to linger. I think that is just a reality of Easter. Based on past experiences I have two comments.
Recognition only for A classes amongst adults. Forget AS and B.
Self-service certificates for all except first places in A classes.
Maybe top three for all A classes, self service for AS & B.
Present both genders at same time for age groups.
If people want photos, take them off to the side
Doing presentations as each class is finalised could be another alternative.
I wasn't there but from previous experiences the prize giving is normally a painful procedure. My thought:
Men and women together (world masters style)
Photos in designated area - not Dias.
No lengthy thank you speeches
Random prizes to keep it interesting eg slowest / fastest splits.
No random prizes, one of the main reasons it is slowed down
Gathering M&F place-getters together pre-ceremony has worked to hasten things a bit at some carnivals that chose to try it - and up they come en mass, 1 set of clapping for 6 people - rather than the painful wait for the cool kids to walk from the back of the crowd to the front 6 times per class.
Tooms - that did happen. All place getters for the 55+ categories were called and then men and women in each age were sort of done together. This was followed by all place getters for the 21A to 50 classes, then all the 'others' (although open easy seemed to think they were in some other group and still came from the back) and finally the elites.
It's the huge number of age categories that caused me to vote in favour of keeping 10 year age categories in the WA state titles but I was well and truly over-ruled by all the old people, who wanted 5 year age categories for all classes from 60 and upwards. Hopefully they'll present younger groups first (unlikely) so that I can leave during the older presentations in protest.
Probably hard to significantly cut the length of the Easter presentation but in an ideal world it would've started as soon as Lachy had finished and all podium places were knowable (and most of these had been knowable for some hours). Appreciate that it's not always as simple as that with modern technology...
the easter presentation didn't go quick
for hilary loves a good limerick
i was bored
craney, he snored
and grace told him "wake up you dick"
*pisses herself laughing*

Easter presentation limericks..ain't nobody got time for that
It isnt always just the process or the officials I am afraid.
I am always surprised at how crappy our top orienteers are at getting themselves quickly to a dias in order, shaking hands, posing for a quick snap and then moving off.
Why does it take them so long?
Why cant they see what they are supposed to do? Its not that difficult.
Are they spent after running so hard in the forests and unable to move?
Do we need a map of the presentation area to get them moving along faster and with better accuracy? Maybe we place a control flag where they are supposed to stand.
I was dumbfounded as to how long some of these people actually took and advised Mapgirl she had better "move it" when it was her turn or suffer my ire on the long trip home.
FRUSTRATING!!!!!
Move to 20 year age categories.
As Rob said. Clear them up over the PA as each class is finalised. No need for a formal presentation. Back in the day when i used to get places, i always thought it was a pain waiting around for the presso, still do.
