There is a series of 4 big national races in France - one in each quadrant of the country - NE, NW, SE, SW. The first of these is on 9 March just south of Paris in Fontainebleau. Amazing granite country, nothing like the granite in Oz, but beautiful and challenging nonetheless. Check out http://jog-orienteering.fr/Doma/show_map.php?user=... and http://omaps.worldofo.com/?id=74663 . Kind of home terrain for me and I usually have pretty good races there. I also shift up to the H55 age category and so am the "young gun":-).

The other races in the Nationale series are on 30 March (near Bordeaux), 13 April (near Lyon), 26 April (in the Jura). These are big events and usually attract a couple of thousand runners - the H50 and H55 classes normally have around 80-100 in each so it has real atmosphere and serious competition.

I also have a night-O race in a couple of weeks nearby Paris, then a few other low-key races planned. My daughter is just getting into the O and really enjoys running around the streamer course - this is around 1.5-2km with a 1:2000 map and is actually timed over here and counts for club points. Brings out the competitive side at an early age! Then prosseri and his son and brother are coming over for the summer and we are doing the Italy 5 Days (in conjunction with WOC) as well as a couple of mtb races in the Dolomites. Should be fun!
