Hi Anthony,

I am going to be in Paris for a few days next week with my girlfriend's family and am hoping to get out to orienteer a few times. Are there any maps that I could potentially get my hands map, either sprint maps in the center or maybe something in Fountainebleau, since I've heard a lot about the terrain there? And are there any events on weekdays that would be accessible? I'll be there from June 25-28. Thanks!!

Hi Boris,

There is a race on Wed evening, 26 June, in the Vallee de Chevreuse just outside of Paris. For details see http://tropheesqy.free.fr . This is the last race of a mid week series that runs during May and June. The longest course is around 7-8 km and is in fairly standard Ile-de-France forest - nice undulating forest, mixed runnability. You will need a car to get there. Unfortunately I won't be doing that one due to work commitments. Cheers

Thanks Anthony! I will try to get to that race, as it sounds like a nice opportunity to get out into the forest. Do you know if it is normally possible to get rides with orienteers from the center of Paris out to events like this one?

There actually aren't many orienteers who live inside Paris - most live in the suburbs and small towns around Paris. I can suggest that you try to get in touch with Richard Lazarowicz (map.image@wanadoo.fr) who is the contact for the club Raid Orientation Paris or Louis Bonfils (LBonfils@aol.com) or Serge Pons (pons2@wanadoo.fr) who are both in the Paris Orientsport club. These two clubs are the only Paris-based clubs and are quite small.

Another option would be to catch a train out to Chevreuse and get a lift from the station. Suggest that you try the club Guyancourt Orientation 78 (who are also organising the event) - their wedbsite is http://www.go78.org/joomla/ and the contact is Serge Paulet (sergepaulet@gmail.com). There are English speakers in the club but I don't have their email address. Hope this helps!
