after a bad track/road race, I used to beat myself up afterwards too. Eventually those negative thoughts turned into motivation to make right the mistakes from the bad races. The Fr. Champs were probably just a nutritional mistake, not ability...easily fixed. You'll be back on top in no time.
It's actually one of the things I enjoy about orienteering, for me there is the possibility of improvement...I'm afraid I reached my peak on the road/track 8-10 years ago.

thanks for the pep talk Phil! You are right about the motivation. It will return and then will set new goals, learning from the mistakes. That is the great thing about orienteering - no such thing as the perfect race. Keeps us coming back for more :-)

Speaking of which I am off to London the weekend after this to do the City of London race. I did it last year and it was a blast. It is a long city O race around the financial centre of London. It is a guiet area on Saturday and so the car and foot traffic is not too bad. Get to run through the grounds of St Paul's Cathedral and past other famous landmarks. Good fun. Check it out at http://www.cityrace.org/
