Can you explain how the sprint challenge thing was working?

El Chucko:
There were 20 people so they randomly drew 4 heats of 5 people. 2 qualification rounds awarded points (ie. 5 for 1st, 4 for 2nd, 3 for 3rd). The top 5 point getters from the 2 qualification rounds made the A final (percentage behind winning times being the tiebreaker), the next 5 the B final, etc. Unfortunately due to a lightning storm we only did the 2 qualification rounds and not the final round.

as well each mispunched control (there were no control codes) led to a 1 minute time penalty

that's kinda fun actually. Mass start for the quali rounds?

Yeah, it was mass start, one-man relay format with 3 loops in each set of courses for a particular heat. Some loops were run backwards so no one was on the same loop in the same direction to start. This was no big deal as there were no real obstructions or elevation changes & it was the luck of the draw which map you got.

For the most part it was a speed fitness test, but a few notable people mispunched (no control codes were given on the map so this was entirely likely) to drop them down several places and out of the A-Final.
