Looks like the long was a rough day for much of USMAOC. Do you and the OTTOs have any thoughts on how to tackle precision map navigation in practice?

We had a lot of great AAR comments about the Long:

1. Fueling - most of us simply ran out of energy (like me) or (for a few of the Blue guys) thought 3 hours was a DQ anyway so they used that as an excuse to head back. The change: get gus and gels for next 10k+ course.
2. Simplification - I used this strategy by way of using the bogs to navigate, and it helped tremendously. Implement corridor training and simplification exercises.
3. 1:15,000 scale. Most cadets aren't used to this scale, practice with it when possible. A sustain was that we taped our compasses to accommodate this scale.

I used water features to simplify a lot, too. Try Thierry's training if you have time - corridor, control pick, and contours only may give you some ideas for practice.
