All about the cross this weekend with the Halloween stage race at Kelso. Today was a muddy affair with probably 50% of the course under water and/or mud. I probably should have pushed harder at the start, but found myself starting at the back as I ran for a quick pit stop just before the start. Found myself with another rider in my category around the middle of the race and we came up on another rider on the second last lap. I felt I was stronger then both overall, but they were able to pull away on down hills. So I really focused on a steady pace for the last lap and was able to pass and pull away from both into the finish.

Very pleased with how I orienteered this. My legs had nothing on the hills after yesterday's race, but moved really well control to control. Would like to get faster on walk the line though.

This is the second year we've gone up to this race and like last year it was really worth the drive. In my opinion they put on a great race. It's great to be orienteering in the fall in Gatineau park. This year was a lot cooler and with the rain the night before we were basically soaked the whole race. We took Eddie with us this year to get him some distance on his legs before RtH. This worked really well because he was able to follow along on the map and caught me a few times when we were straying a bit off course. As always Audrey was a machine setting the pace on the trail and we ended up as one of only 3 teams to clear the whole course. 2nd Co-ed and 3rd overall against a number of really good teams.

Tried going north on the grand river trail with more success this week and was able to re-join the trail this time. Ran up to Kiwannis park, then on the way back I tried a little side trail before continuing home. Nice run, although the south pass had many more hills.

Took today off to get into work early. This week was good consider the hours I'm working I was able to get 4 workouts in including intervals. We'll see about this weekend though. Won't be able to attend Ontario Champs probably, but hopefully can get a long run in tomorrow.
