Veteran's Day Night-O at Buckthorn Park - I mean Sunfish Lake Park. Mass start with a big full moon. Tom, Biz, Andrei and I had the first three controls the same, then I split off on the B map while the other three sparred on the A map (it was all chance which maps we got). Although I didn't have any major trouble with navigation (just a few bobbles here and there,) heavy undergrowth kept the speed down for everyone. I never took my compass out of my pocket, as the moon was high enough in the east to be perferctly visible through the leafless trees. Ended up in 3rd place, then retrieved some controls and finished the night with pizza & beer.
At Elm Creek again, skipped the easy trails and did two loops of the black. Not really that difficult, trail a little narrower, a little twistier, and a little bumpier surface. Obstacles consist of a 20 ft long, 8 inch wide plank bridge, a couple of bumpers, two ravine crossings, and a half dozen log piles, all with bypass.
Spent all day outside at MN Valley SRA and (formerly Murphy's) Landing, for MMN class field trip. Checked out floodplain forest and cultural history sites. Half time log as usual... great weather today!
