Orienteering (NZ 4 - Pine Grove Stumble) 2:20:00 [2] *** 3.8 mi (36:50 / mi) +198m 31:42 / mi
shoes: Pink Ice Bugs #2

Drove up to Pine Grove Furnace with Amy. Smooth ride, good company.

Knew going in that I would have little chance to complete even the Short course in the three hours allowed, especially since I was walking only even though I walk pretty fast. Decided to go around with Amy, though I don't think she figured that out right away.

S-1 Trail to YMCA camp, aiming off from the big black X. Stayed high and nailed it. Amy had dropped too low, drawn off by the people going from 1-2, so I waited 5 minutes up there for her to come back up the hill.
1-2 Back through the camp, past the vicinity of 15 to the dirt road, to the bridge, to the road, to trail east of 2, climbing, climbing, climbing, and then on the indistinct trail to the control.
2-C Picked Sandy's brain for the 10 yards I was near her on the way to one, and she said she was doing A-B-C in the window, so that was my plan. However, we dropped to low out of 2 ending up just below C, so we climbed up to that as others were crashing down through the green.
C-A Tried to find the trail out of C, but I was more just staying too high in the rocks. Finally dropped down far enough to be clear of the rocks, and saw the control location. Tried to get Amy's attention, but she wasn't in hearing.
A-B Punched A while I was there and headed towards B. She was fairly close to B since she thought that was where I was going next. So, we punched B and headed back to A.
B-A Dropped way too low ending up close to the trail and then finding the trail. Crap! six contour lines back up the A. Tell Amy it is good training, and I miss the pained expression on her face. Get her up there and discuss the options for 6 & 7, or heading back in from here. She admits that her left foot is really painful from a bruise from a week or two ago, so we head back in which was just as well.

Asthma wasn't an issue, though I was worried that it would be. Actually felt pretty strong going uphill. Taped the heels for blister prevention before I left home, and then put on the PSB braces at the meet. Briefly contemplated going without but through better of it. These felt good throughout, and I felt secure with my footing. First time really off trail in months, so I am happy that it went so well.

Drive home was just as pleasant as the drive to the event.

Tracks are Amy's since my 310xt once again deleted my tracks for the last event. Agh! They are close enough.

Biking (NZ 3 - Biking) 33:30 [1] 6.6 mi (5:05 / mi)

So, it was almost a wasted day. Last night I decided to go to the SVO Stumble on Sunday, which meant I needed to make Saturday count on the home front vs. farting around on Saturday and having Sunday "count" instead. Really, really stupid to drive to Pine Furnace to attempt a 9+ k course, but there are so few opportunities for me to just "compete" these days, so I decided it was worth it.

Got up sort of early, and tried to sooth the spousal unit. He went off to get a haircut, and I tasked myself to get the race clock I had borrowed for NAOC out of the back of the van. Thought I would ride my bike a bit while I was doing that. But, I didn't feel like it, so I got the clock delivered and came home. Then I had an early lunch.

Finally, Roger arrived back home after running like a thousand errands after the haircut. While he ate lunch, I biked to my office, and asked him to meet me there. Dropped the bike at the office and picked up the two chairs that had come out of the van prior to NAOC.

Anyway, I did one other small Roger chore, made some brownies and cookies for the Stumble - stupid or not...

Note

First time since I got the clip less pedals - fell over. Boom!! Stopped without unclipping. Audience you ask? Of course!! Arlington County policeman on a bike and ~ 30 day laborers waiting in vain for a day's labor. Agh!! Embarrassed but not injured otherwise.

Note

Did actually sew on a quilt this evening. Not one of mine, but sewing. Details to follow.

Misc (NZ 2 - Moving boxes) 1 [0]
weight:195lbs

As much as I would like giving Sandy's suggestion of THE Core DVD a go, I spent ~5 hours on my feet today at work, moving boxes and files around, and I am very sore this evening. So, I will call that my exercise for today. Sadly, my right heel is especially sore between yesterday and today, but I am choosing to ignore that, kind of.

Part of the NZ preparation is getting the Records Center in the best shape possible before Christmas. Goal is to get everything inventoried and shelved, and to get the problem cases cleared up and documented, since I will be out of the RC for a month between Xmas break and the NZ trip. I am training a part-time person, who will come in about 10 hours a week while I am gone. Putting my procedures down in writing, or having to explain what I do to L has been eye opening. We have changed student information systems 3 times since 2009, and if someone wants records spanning these years, it can be a bit of an adventure switching between the three systems.

Anyway, I am beat and sore, so Day 2 will have to stand on its own merits. ;-)

Note to self - had to use the rescue inhaler last night to stop a mild+ episode. Use before walking/running the next time.

Running/Walking (NZ 1 - GW track) 26:50 [1] 2.0 mi (13:25 / mi)
weight:197lbs

Tickets purchased. Time to get off of my fat ass on a regular basis. Sort of admitting that the foot (feet) hurt, so time to suck it up anyway.

Laps around the .25 mile loop at work. Walked three, ran one x 2.

No pre-workout inhaler. Additionally, I ran out of Advair a month ago in the pre-NAOC crazy time. So, I am tight and coughing this evening, but I think I can tough it out, or not. I will decide tomorrow...

Tomorrow - more exercise of a moderate nature.
