Brown NRE course at Anza Borrego. Cold and very windy. Nice course, not too hard if you stayed in contact. No navigational problems. The map looked a little intimidating, lots of light gray on white, but the light gray was very well-mapped gravel spurs, and it was not so hard to navigate as long as I stayed in contact. Relocating might have been hard, but never had to. Less steep and better footing than yesterday, but the wind was pretty ferocious. It whipped my hat off on the way to 2, and I carried it in my hand the rest of the way. Kept a death grip on my map as the wind kept trying to liberate it. Very slow, but feeling better than yesterday. Hit every control right on except #1, where I went to the correct gully and it was only about 20 m higher than where I arrived. Close enough to count it as a spike. Went by 5 on the way to 2, for the good attack point and to imprint what it looked like for when I came back. Long compass leg to 9 and I spotted the flag about 2/3 of the way there, so easy enough. Wouldn’t have seen it unless I was looking in exactly the right place, though.
Map and route.
Not so beat up, but I had had enough fun by then to skip the Maze, especially as George was also skipping it, so headed back to San Diego.
